Diesel nears the $5.00 dollar mark and most likely a way of life

As season comes to a close and fuel is at record levels you have wonder how its going to affect next year with the prospect of even higher prices, $100 only bought me 20 gallons of diesel in Canada so how will your average family of four afford to ride? will this become a sport for just a few and if only a few ride it would most likely be the end to the large manufacturers

I hear ya. It's getting a bit out of hand. Premium was $5/gallon here on the weekend. Diesel isn't far behind.

I'm going to do a CNG conversion. CNG is only .79 a gallon. You lose about 10% milage on CNG but at those prices who cares! You can now get a home refueling station so you dont have to always hit a local refiller. Conversions allow you to run both as normal gas, or CNG with a flick of a switch.

This will definitely affect sledders and has already greatly affected me personally. Outdoor recreation, especially snowmobiling, will become a sport only enjoyed by a few. I've already shortened my outings to a max of about 35 miles. I can save roughly $35.00 a ride by riding a little less. I can still get out and enjoy the scenery, rip up a few hills and have a great morning. I used to spend the better part of the day on the mountain. With the price of gas these days now I'm home by 1:00 cooking lunch. You have to draw a line somewhere. The cost of gas and fuel may make 4-Strokes appeal to more people than ever. I be willing to bet the manufacturers are all concerned.

My plans have changed as now I have 4 sled to fuel up 1 for me, wife, and 2 kids. Holy CHIT, that's a hit in the pocket book. 6 yrs ago who cared about fuel, now days, seems like it is the talk of every coffee shop, gas station, grocery store, etc. Definitely affects travel for all of us, not only sledding, but summer activities too.

yep I have missed more weekends this spring just because I won't drive up by myself. I am thinking I will keep the miles down on my truck this summer. it is an 06 and has 12000 miles on it. I should beable to keep it under 13000 at the end of the summer

$1.39 per liter here in BC which is $5.25 per gallon. Cost me over $160.00 to fill up my truck yesterday.

the arab jihad will not be happy til they break the free world, oil is working better for them than any suicide bomber ever will, sad but true:mad::eek:

Uhm, you might want to look at the futures market. I don't like the damn jihad bas tards either, but this isn't all them...

We went out fewer times this year, and stayed a couple days. (it's two hours to the mountains) 160 bucks in the truck, and 120 in two sleds. Damn. B

I know it's cutting into my bike riding this summer and I don't even have to pay for gas in the truck, but at 3.50 plus for premium I can't burn 5 gallons 2-3 times a week, and I'll be trying good old 87 as well.

Yeah I know, that's only20-30 bucks, but I have to support a wife and 2 kids first.

shes all about choices ....choices I said:beer;

yeah and choices suck. Some days I wish I was still a kid in kindergarten, eat sleep and play. Repeat the next day.

I hear ya ....4 kids all under 10 .....wife to die for ....a truckin biz........where was I ?????

This for me is a good way to justify buying a dual sport bike rather that a new 4 wheeler I f idrive it 75% of my miles on it should be about double the payment in fuel savings.

You know that's not a bad idea. I've been trying to talk the wife into letting me get a dirt bike for awhile now and with a truck that gets 12 city I think I could talk her into a street legal bike and ride it to work. Then I can still play in the hills come summer.:)

it amazes me that we can put men on the moon, clone cells, and support illegal aliens by the thousands, BUT we cannot produce a cheap, powerful alternative fuel for our toys and trucks????

someone is holding out on us BIG TIME!!

Jeeez......You guys almost sound like you are indifferent and non-compassionate to the high costs of the election year political process, CEO mansions/jets/yachts, record oil industry profits, the successful halt placed on new refineries, and the cost of playing war.

This stuff isn't cheap guys.

Seriously, I think some of the major hits will be in our own communities where we will make the tough financial choices to pay/or not, for things like school levies, public library, increased law enforcement, jails, improvement bonds, things like that. These important issues are going to run head on into a financially TAPPED public who's feelings of disconnect with every day costs will be reinforced with each fill up. I would not want to be the Salvation Army bell ringer this Christmas. That is if, of course, only if the big box stores even allow them to recognize Christmas or charity.

So the question is, do I support the 4-H car wash for a $20 spot this Saturday, or add 4 gallons of diesel? I'm gonna do both, then rush right home and cheat on my taxes during the time I would normally be riding. "Stick it to the man". LOL. EW
