Die hard Doo...Just switched to Poo..Need the ins and outs of my new Pro!

After 12 years of SkiDoo I have finally jumped ship and bought a new Pro-163. What do I need to be aware of? What Oil do most people use? Any help for this Polaris "Newbie" would be greatly appreciated.

for the most part..gas oil and ride...keep the track tightand aligned..and lets here a first ride report...

seeing as i still have my 800 etec and i have a 12 pro i'm just going to use doo synthetic, way easier than buying 2 different oils. doo made me sign some paper work stating i had to use thier synthetic, i know that doesn't mean much and i could run any syn but i have had 0 issues running there oils on all my doo's. as long as you run syn in the pro you should be fine.

not that I know of..gotta run the scratchers in anything less then 3-4" of freshies..but otherwise good to go

Just keep your clutches clean and make sure you have your belt deflection adjusted properly.
I would file (or grind the edge) of the rear of the tunnel drop bracket where the track goes back up into the tunnel.... these can be too sharp and when you sidehill the track will rub on there and continue to fray the edge of your track.

Otherwise.... figure out a way to get that grin off your face at the end of the day!

<---- What he said. Prepare for sore cheeks a couple days after riding. That permagrin can do some damage.

I run AMS. Have for years and never one burn down (I realize other factors are involved). I had a D8 with 1800 miles and no burn down. Also had a D7 with 2800 miles and no burn down. I have 1300 on my Pro with no burn downs. I like this pattern so I'm sticking with it. AMS in the Dirtbike, street bike, Duramax and wifey's car.

i hear mixed results on alot of thier products. my buddy runs it in everything he owns and has had 0 issues. my mechanic bought a bunch of **** from them and had nothing but issues. alot of sled guys will tell you that thier oil blows and some will tell you its great. i used it and did not have any problems in my rs and my old 440, but i never put that many miles on them, both had less than 1k on them.

What you need to be aware of is you won't be Ski-dooing anytime soon. :clock:
I run four boogies about $40/pair from Polaris. Here we have to. Take them off when we go out west. I always have my temp gauge on. We ride in Cooke City and Island Park and I normally have my scratchers down on the trail until we get up into the off trail riding. I'll get a lot of boo's here but to me oil is oil. I run Amsoil interceptor, but only because the factory is close by and I buy it by the 55 gallon drum. The Ski-doo/Polaris dealer in Cooke City uses Ski-doo mineral oil in both their Ski-doo and Polaris rental sleds. $28/gallon bulk. They are a dealer so they must know something. Have fun! :face-icon-small-coo

clutching

Stock clutching is very good from the factory, all you really need
for it are 68 gram MTX weights. Not sure what elevtion you ride, but
if its 0-3000 ft, start with 2 grams in the belly and 1 gram in the tip,
and then adjust accordingly. From all the clutching threads Ive read,
they like running in the 8200-8250 rpm range the best.

I also switched this year to the PRO from a Summit. Nice to see a thread that says some good things. I was getting worried as it seems all I was reading about was how hot they ran..... reminds me of my 03 rev. Also how they eat belts... reminds me of my 08 Summit.

Now I see some people do like the PRO!!

Fun how on here it seems you hear all the bad stuff!

I got a 2011 PRO 155 and can't wait to try it out!!

you have part numbers for the wheels and kits?

If you bought a new 2012 pro with warrenty i would run poo oil only from the stand point of the warrenty, it's just another reason for polaris to kick a warrenty claim and even if polaris doesn't kick it but the dealer says no warrenty and you pay and then the dealer turns it in for warrenty and gets paided twice!

JMO

Also added the two wheel kits to mine new pro 800, i bet they will never slow me down!

You have the worst dealer in the world if he socks it to you for using AMSoil.

Dont think you need the wheels if you use the scratchers. Ran 50+ miles of hard pack one night with temps mostly in 120s to low 130s. Run em down even in lite fluf snow. They do the job. Also good idea to let warm to 100+ before taking off and 120ish before really get on it.

They lack the front cooler so they will run warm without the powder. The taller tracks also keep the snow off of the hyfax and it warms up or melts w/o lube. Use the scratchers they work for cooling and lubrication. Rode mine was hitting 137 put the scratchers down and it went to 123. Even on powder it runs 123 to 125. As for the extra wheel kit, depends on your riding. How far you need to go to get to powder? Do you trail ride?

As for snowmobiler, and the other guys that whine about their sled being the best who cares, if you are happy that is all that matters! I think he either has pro-envy or maybe a butt load of Bombardier stock!
