Was just on the KLIM website and I can't find any mention of their ABS packs.

Have they discontinued their entire line?

And if so, does anyone know WHY they left that segment of the market???

KLIM just confirmed to me that they have dropped the ABS line and are no longer producing any ABS packs at this time.

They never did produce them, they were the sole US distribtuor. I think ABS is going straight through the US retailers now.

ABS came to the us this year, they have a warehouse in Denver, Klim didnt want to compete with the manufacture of the product so they are no longer carrying them. the big bonus to ABS now being in the US is that the recharge kits that used to be $150 are now only $25!

Correct.

From the looks of it the packs will be the same price. New colors styles and options are new for the '10-'11 line-up. To add insult to injury, BCA added a ski carry strap to their pack and raised the price from 499 to 699.

Correct, KLIM never made the ABS packs nor did they ever have the KLIM logo on the pack. They have always been manufactured and sold by ABS, KLIM was simply a distributor. HOWEVER, KLIM was very instrumental in getting canisters approved for DOT transportation, which was always a big hassle with the canisters.

http://www.snowbigdeal.com has been carrying the ABS line since 2004 and will continue to carry it throughout the future. We have all the Escape line (Escape Freeride, 15, 30) as well as the Vario line. We have multiple colors of each.

ABS Canister refills are only $29.99 if you have a yellow or black canister to exchange.

PM me with any questions on ABS or other Avalanche Airbag products!

What new colours, styles, and options are available on abs packs this year? I was told by RMX that nothing was new.

I was wrong. It isnt ABS thats comming out with new colors or styles this year. The only new accessories from ABS are a carbon fiber tank and a wireless remote activation antenna/switch

Stay tuned, there may be a new ABS pack coming out later next month. Hopefully we will be able to get it here in North America.

ABS is going to discontinue the Escape 15 and Escape 30 packs. They are not as popular or as versatile as their other packs. They will have three lines of packs:

1) Freeride (Includes the popular Escape Freeride and the Freeride 10L)
2) Vario
3) The new Powder line that will hopefully be available in North America this year. Here's a link to the Powder line; I hope they come out with a zip-on pack with the external shovel storage: http://www.abs-airbag.com/powderlin...=uk&sid=67784dca6d22722ccf8f50535f7cf973&m=17

The proven Vario system is now also available for the freeride sector. With a significantly smaller base unit and volumes rangign from 5 l to 15 l the packs are compact, narrow and light, hence perfectly tailored to the needs of freeriders.

I just received confirmation from ABS that the Powder line will NOT be available in North America this year. We'll have to wait until next season; but waiting an extra season on a brand-new product is not always a bad thing either.

Looking at those colors... they needed another season to get THAT problem sorted out!!! (or is neon still big in europe...??) :D

Bummer about the escape though, I've been very happy with the two we have.

I have an ABS Vario and the only thing I wish they'd change about it, and include with the Powder line, is having more pockets instead of having to cram my shovel and goggles and survival gear all into one large pocket. It gets annoying and cumbersome when i have to get my shovel out and try not to let all my other gear fall out and then try to put my shovel back in without hurting my goggles or getting it to fit back in my tightly packed bag. ABS would do well to take a page from the Snowpulse Highmark bag for their Powder line design!!!
