Deep Snow Shootout

Congratulations to Ski Doo. Secondly I consider myself non bias and currently ride Polaris. After reading the deep snow shoot out all I can say is, " it is what it is ". The truth is in the testing. I do however have a couple of unanswered questions. First I thought the sleds were to be tested as supplied by the manufacture. The article says the sleds were inspected to make sure they were. Did Mountain Magic Sports out of Preston Idaho FORGET to tell Snow West they had reversed the tracks on the Arctic Cat sleds at the time of testing. I can't imagine they did the switch in no other attempt than to increase their performance. Were there any other modifications allowed ? Funny thing, I was reading a new thread today and the person posing the message indicated if the track was left as delivered, the Arctic Cat line would have fared much better. Unfortunately since Mountain Magic Sports made the switcheroo nobody can say for sure at this time. I like the idea of seeing is believing and until there is another back to back test with the four major brands under the same snow conditions I can only see the track issue as just an Arctic Cat excuse. Once again congratulations Ski Doo on your great accomplishment.

where is this shootout at ,what magazine did yousee it in

I think he is talking about the Snowest Deep Powder shootout. There is an article in the new issue. I enjoyed reading about the Polaris 600 Turbo. It sounds like those rock!! Since it was so cold, the guy couldn't even hold it wide open, and it still was very impressive.

I'd sure like to get the latest issue so I could read it too!
Did they forget about my subscription?

I believe the shootouts are stock sleds with the dealers setups. I think they are only allowed to make minor changes to the setups. This is also a way for the dealers to sell there setups.

It is an interesting article, hope your issue comes soon. Mine came in the mail last week. It also has a preview of the 09 sleds. There is also a thread about the challenge on the Mountain/Deep powder area. I wish I woudn't of read the posts, it was the typical my sled is betther than your sled B.S.

They are allowed to do things like change clutching and switch the tracks around and stuff, as long as everything is stock and it is part of their normal setup.

As for the challenge as a whole, there is one thing I found rather interesting.
All bashing aside, I found it interesting that in most all of the challenges the sleds all ran pretty close together.

There was no real "under performer".
In the past there was usually a real dog in the mix. Seems the Big 4 are putting out some pretty good stuff.

Ollie,

I noticed that all of the sleds were really close in performance as well. I look at the techology today and can't believe that there can be anything more that the manufacturers can do to improve snowmobile performance....though they always seem to come up with something. To look how snowmobile technology has progressed in my lifetime is pretty amazing.

The big four are putting out some good stuff. I ride a Polaris and chose it over others mainly due to the customer service at the local dealership. There are things that I like about the Polaris better, but then I look at other brands and there are things that I like better in those brands. It is nice that we have the options and choices that we have.:D

Deep Snow

I personally found the Yamaha to be the under performer due to its weight. The Nytro buried at 160 FT ! The turbo sleds are incredible but why spend the additional 6000 beans to do what some of the stock sleds can already do. although I do understand also how cool it would be to own a turbo. I would like to hear Snow Wests opinion on how much they allowed the dealers to do ( like clutching and such ) to the sleds prior to testing. Great article.

I think you just have to read between the lines. Knowing that speed up the hill was a major factor in the test, the dealer reversed the track to get the traction, but the AC doesn't climb that well in soft conditions with reversed track.

I think all the 2 strokes especially were amazingly close and the Ski Doo was great. (I ride AC) But M1000 riders know that this beast is not a drag racer, it is a tractor.

I like to see the different Mfg's pushing each other, we all benefit. It's good to see Poo back in harness.

I hope Ski Doo gets the details solidly in place next year, with super reliability it will probably be the powder standard, but the standard bearer has to be reliable this time. (That mean all of them)

I for one can't stand the ridiculous breakdowns now that everyone is so far from civilization these days. Stockers should work right.

IMHO

A lot of honest opinions in this thread, it's good to see that instead of the usual. I to think the big 4 are getting pretty close, and all there advantages and disadvantages.
