D8 turbo? Apex turbo?

Well, I don't have a TD8. I do have an 09 TM8 and a TAPEX though. A fair amount of weight off the Apex and a 2871 running around 18-20lbs. of boost. I run the TM8 around 10-11lbs. of boost. I can tell you the Apex needs to run around 15-16lbs. of boost to "spank" the TM8 at 10lbs. of boost. This is at 12-12500' in elevation. The Tapex "feels" waaaay faster than the TM8, when in fact they are both running neck and neck. It does not make sence, but I suppose it has to do with the mass of the Tapex versus the lighter TM8. It would be hard for me to pick only one sled. They both have their places. The Tapex when spooled up to around 18-20lbs. boost is way fun. Big pulls are a giggle. No, the TM8 won't touch the Tapex at that boost level. The TM8 is a boondocking dream, and it is no slouch on pulls either. Sure you can boondock the Tapex, and it is very capable. But, for me anyway, it is NOT as much fun as the TM8 in the boondocking department.

Ride each, TD8 and Tapex, if you can get your hands on them and make your own decision. No matter which you pick you will have more fun than you can imagine.

Just out of curiosity, what are you turbo 2 smokes getting for mileage out of your motors between rebuilds? Do you think you ride them as hard as you would a 4 stroke? :beer;

i ride the snot out of my sled... boost levels from 10-14lbs depending on where i'm at and i was getting about 1800 miles between rebuilds last year... the way my sled will be set up this year i dont think i will rebuild it at all... maybe do pistons after the first 2000 miles but we'll see.
-2xm3 i'll look ya up this winter! i'm always down for a cold beer and good steaks:D hopefully we can change your mind on turbo two stroke boondocking too!:beer;

Question 4 ya...has anyone ever done a turbo wc motor:eek: in a sled?? i been thinking about this a bit.:confused::confused:

Yeah its sick but so am I...hahahaha

When its stupid deeeeeppppp

The td8 could be a great sled when all conditions are perfect. If you need to get up the big hill when it deep then think turbo 4stroke. I have ridden both. I am a small dude and can get around fine in the trees. Turbo Apex. I am pooped out at the end of the day. I will see you at the top of the hill, but I will only make one poke!!:face-icon-small-hap

my mind got changed after riding a tm8 last year. i would jump ship from my ski don't to a tm8 in a second. they are great for boondocking and going through the tree's.

i have no problem boondocking my tapex and will go any place a two stroke turbo will go and beyond

Probably so, for the first half of the day. By the end you would be so whipped. Not saying the apex isnt great, buy you cant tell me by the end of the day you wont feel the extra weight. I have ridden turbo apex's and nytros and really enjoyed the power, But couldnt wait to give it back after a few hours.
