two years ago i built a 07 iqr 159 07 rmk 700motor with a bd race gas turbo. sled rips but looking to build or buy something new this year.
i would like a d8 turbo or apex turbo we ride at togwotee wy and cooke city mt i like climbing them big shoots but still do the boonedocking.
any help on witch way to go would be great.

Thanks

climbing ?? Turbo apex 174 w/m10

boondocking? as light as possible,id think twice about the turbo..imho a nice 400 lb sled with n/a 200 or so hp is ur best bet...so i guess mt vote would be polaris D8 as a start...

why not turbo nytro? The power of the apex, but lighter and the chassis is more similar to the dragon?

X2 I would pick the Dragon but then again I have spent some seat time on a Tnytro but I would pick a Nytro over an Apex.

gues i never thaught. the big thing bout the yamahas that i do like is the power there getting outa them when they turbo them just nervious bout the boonedocking/handleing.

your on the right track, your thinking Turbo. I have rode them all, and it comes down to which sled you like. You can adapt to ride any machine out there.

I also think you would like a T nytro. I have roughly 70 lbs taken off mine and it is very easy to ride.

you obviously havent ridden with many properly set up 2stroke turbos, they rock for boondocking, there are very and i mean very few n/a sleds that can keep up in the trees.... TD8 all the way for the boondocking, if you want to point and chute i'd go with a TNytro

Observation.

I see alot of guys posting right in there for sale ads on Apex's..."will trade for turbo two stroke" or "selling to build turbo two stroke"

I have NEVER seen a TD8 ad that said "will trade for turbo apex"

Take from that what you want.

If your going to go with the dragon, get a Td7 instead. The motors have proven to be great as opposed to the issues with the 800 and you can get em cheap.

very few of the TD8'S had any issues at all. with the advanced fuel programming with the fuel controllers they rocked. i put over 3,000 miles on mine and never had any problems what so ever.

I made a trip out to McCall last season and rode with Jkinzer. I will second the vote for the Turbo D8 or M8 for a good all around sled. The yamaha's make big power but if you like boondocking they are not the best. Last season I got a chance to ride a local t-apex capable of over 400hp and I am not going to say it wasn't a kick in the pants I just prefer the Turbo D8.

Well i've ridden 6 so far..I have not ridden one of ur kits ...anytime u are up this way please feel free to call we would love to ride ur setup we have great riding areas about 12 min from my house and we ride about 4000 mi a year. I have plenty of room and cook a mean steak no problem being my guest at all. I would bet that if u have a no lag smooth power turbo setup you probably would sell 2 kits to my group on the spot. We have tried boondock, carls and twisted so far and its still lightweight n/a sleds but I would have no problem at all with a turbo if it would ride like i like.

Wondering what does your kit put out on a D8 ? and what would the kit add in weight? we usually try for 2 lbs/hp in our boondock sleds (no rider) and that really works great for the woods.

Why build a 2 stroke and limit yourself to boondocking. Build the Apex so you have the best of both worlds, you can pull big chutes and boondock...unless you don't think your tough enough to handle the Apex.

Make no mistake about it, Yamaha does not build sleds for boys so make sure you know your limitations.

I own both . I have taken 94 lbs off my apex ,run a 174 2.5 camo ext. timbersled front and rear , fox float2 ect ect ect.....i'm 6'6" 270 and I'll take my lightweight polaris for boondocking every time...to each his own....:p
