Rode the new sled today for the first time. Logging rode shakedown ride only not enough snow for anything else. Worked well. 20 miles just chekcing it out. Pulls real hard on the short straights I found and the powerclaw hook up is incredible. And I keep forgetting and just try to give it a normal one arm pull and it about rips my hand off trying to start it. I might take it up again tomorrow but probably wait for another storm first. Also I thought it might be too loud with the D&D can because it is quite loud at idle but not bad when on the flipper. A/F gauge will not work consistently waiting for DC converter to come in. D&D boondocker numbers seemed real safe by feel and it was running in the 12s at wide open when the gauge was working. But it was only wide open for a second because it eats up a short straight with a quickness. We had a new M8 162" Sno Pro up there too. Cat did a nice job on these. It is light and runs sweeeeeet!!!
First I want to say I'm not a cat guy but think the 09 is a sweet sled. I ride a custom but if I didn't I would ride a cat soley b/c its all about the dealer when buying a new sled. I currently own both Doo and Poo and find myself hangin out at MBMS b/c they're such a great store.
When it comes to dealers Mt Baker is as good as they comes. Steve is a super guy and knows the value of a repeat customer. Mt. Baker Motorsports has all four area of a great dealership covered Sales, Service, Parts and a couple of cute girls.
Just wanted to give Steve and MBMS a shout b/c they work hard for it.
Hey Steve I still think you need to put in some leather couches for us to sit in when we come down to the store for some bench racing. Maybe some hot cocoa and spiced cider.
Real nice sled.
Do you have to run race gas mixture or is that pump gas?
Sure looks good and if it works half as good as she looks I do beleive you may get your self in trouble.
Over the summer I'm going to get Brent to make mine a 1200 with the Twisted Turbo. My buddy has a Twisted Turbo M8 and lrt me tell you Shain has a good product for sure.Post some pics with that monster in action.
stonehands thank you. It is a tough business but we love sledding and taking care of our customers. We will just keep trying our best. The 1200s can be built different ways ours are what D&D calls a stage 2 high altitude set up. It was designed for 8,000 + on pump fuel. We are running 75% pump fuel with 25% VP C-12. Several reasons we often start at less than 2500 feet and you don't know what is coming out of the pump. The 2 09s we built have about 80 miles each and run strong. I had my A/F gauge working correctly last night and then it quit again today so I have not gotten to aggressive with the fuel control. I did pull fuel at 5000 in the lo and mid and cleaned up a flat spot nicely. I also don't have a deep powder base yet to test. I rode it fairly hard today in trail conditions with some powder maybe a foot at times 53 miles and it was about out of fuel. I am going to finish dialing it in with the full D&D system and then change the muffler it is too loud for me. I am sure we will do at least one turbo build in house for next year.
IceCap the weight savings are the same as with most single systems plus we have the power valve system out and I don't have oil injection on mine. Hey stonehands let's get it on the scale you talked about and we can see what it weighs ready to ride.
stonehands said he is bringing the scales by tonight. Sled is in the garage topped off and ready to ride so we will see what it is. I do have the stock muffler on it right now. I will take pictures and post them
Just got it on the scale. 555lbs ready to ride. I have the stock can on it right now so another 8-10lbs will be off. It is completely full of fuel with my spare can and tail bag on both of those are empty.
Nice sled! I would recommend the Skinz Super-Q can if you want the lightest can without the powerful sounds of the Jaws or D&D cans. My SLP is okay for a trail rider, but nothing that gets your attention in the mountains. I personally dislike the MBRP, and Jaws cans myself and think they are too much noise. The Skinz is just right and only 7lbs total weight! The SLP is 12lbs, and my stock can weighed ~22lbs.
thanks sparx. I have the d&d can style but took it off cause it is to0 loud. We have the Skinz as well. And D&D has a new quiet can but I have not decided yet.
Just curious how the exhaust valve delete is working - did you ever try tuning with the stock ex. valves in? That 1200 is probably the one engine that has so much bottom end power the ex. valves probably don't make much difference!
