Cutting cost of sledding? Besides ripping off your pals.

So for everyone that read the article in last months SW about how to cut fuel costs and skim off your pals. It brings up a good point that seems is on everyones mind. But on the serious side of it how are you guys going to battle the costs? Are you going to make less trips this year? Here is a couple things we are doing but keep in mind we are 500 miles from our riding spot so not all will apply. BTW, I dont think skimming off your pals works out too good as SW suggested.

1. We are going to take less trips but make more days to ride. So instead of 8-10 weekend trips make it 4 or 5 3 day trips.

2. Leave your sleds at the riding area at a friends home and drive a car. We may be the only tools in a TDI VW up there but at least we are still there.

Even if you cant drive a car, the money you will save driving the truck without pulling that big enclosed is a substancial savings.

I've been putting $100.00 a week in a seperate savings account just for fuel. I've been doing this since May so I can afford to go play. I also have a sled deck and can pull a trailer, this way we can get more people together to split fuel costs....

Definitely less trips here. Its the only way we can make it work this year. We also probably won't start going out until January which saves three trips before the 1st of the year. Well, might have to go once in Dec if the snow is right, or at least just get the sleds to Laramie so they will be there in Jan.

The main reason we have to cut back is we are going to McCall in March for 5 days, so kind of eliminates a few trips. Of all the years to decide to go, we choose this one. But, its like we said, it maybe our last chance. Who knows how bad the prices of sledding will get in future years. So we are looking at 5-6 trips, and one big one, compared to 12 last year. Gotta do what ya gotta do right?

This sucks!!!

NO CHANGE!
I'll cut back on other things first.
Pay off the other bills to free up money so as not to impact my sledding. I only get 7-8 months a year and I'm not wasting it. Only put on 1500miles last season and I need to get more time this year.

its kind of funny because i am going to take more trips this year and try to ride much more. i graduated from college last december and didn't get a job till may so i was dead broke last winter and only took 1 trip to CO. this winter will hopefully be 2 trips west and a bunch to the UP or WI.

well, hopefully i'll be putting more $ into fuel than repairs this season.

and i also plan to overnight at the lot more this season. so i get 2 or 3 days out of 1 trip.

well, thats the plan anyway...

I'm not sure what this "skim off your pals" is all about? Maybe I should find out...

I thought the TDI got smacked! You must know a cheap auto body man!

Ahhhh yes, but flying out tommorow to Atlanta to pick up a 05 Passat TDI, should be much more roomy. But if that fails I can always take the beetle with a TDI on it and the WVO conversion. I put the #'s to that and if just you and i go out YF we can drive 1100 miles round trip on 50 bux worth of diesel!!!! AND that aint no bs! 25 bux a piece! Saaaaaaaaaaweeet!

Same as you, one four day or a couple 3 day weekends a month rather than weekends. Buying a second used sled, not a new one like I hoped. Saving $10K will get me a lot more riding time in fuel and I won't feel obligated to go ride the $12,000 trailer ornament if it isn't sitting in the garage, staring at me each time I go in there. Not that any of us really feel "obligated" to ride...LOL but you know what I mean, I just won't feel as guilty if I don't go. Its hard to argue the depreciation factor.

Just gonna do the same as always and just going to have to pay the extra cost. With the fuel prices they are right now it is actually cheaper to go then a couple late season trips last year.

Right on!

Running 50/50 instead of straight C12.
Taking the truck with the deck, instead of towing the enclosed when riding locally.
Less benders when on the road......hotels, food, etc etc........string a few 3 day weekends in a row and it's starts to look grim but I'm determined to ride more than I did last season. Not really paying attention to the $$$. But still limiting certain aspects.
