cuts of beef

How much would it cost a person to pick up a whole beef of the better quality available? How big of a freezer would be required to store it?

Better idea to raise the beef yourself and then have it slaughtered (fatten it on grain instead of grass, etc) or go to a meat market and get the beef there?

Want to pick up a whole one this spring/summer/fall unless I decide to make the move north.

The best thing you can do is ask a couple local shops on there feed lots.. try to find one that marbles there beef really well. Cost all depends on the butcher shop? You will need a big deep freeze to fit it all in.. if you dont have just by a 1/4 or 1/2 a beef... Unless you have raised beef before for butcher probably not a great idea to raise it yourself for best quality.. If you are mainly looking for just burger and not steak and roast the best thing you can do is talk to somebody at a sale yard... and buy a cow that breaks its leg or something there.. cause most of the time they cant auction them off then so the owner will sale it cheap.. then your local shop can add a little fat if necisary to get what ever ratio you want

We've raised em before, my parents just don't really want any cattle of their own on their land anymore. The lease the place out to a local racher that does all the haying for my dad.

Been planning on talking to the place right down the road from me, rumor has it that its a damn good place to get beef.

Quit it already!!!

It is 1220am. All I can think about is a nice fat steak......Salivia all over the keyboard!!!:p

I would definitely agree on the under 30 month marbled, every year we keep a steer aside and name him hamburger. He is taken on a field trip to the meat locker (after a 30 day diet of nothing but sweet chop) and we get a third of him. After getting meat like this I can't seem to be able to stomach stuff from a store. Make friends with a local rancher and see if you can't by an animal from him and get it butchered.
