Curious about the XP. Would you do it again?

So I got talking to my ol' man tonight about sleds. He currently rides an 04 Arctic Cat 1M 600 EFI 144, not a great sled by any means but it gets around ok. I told him that in the past 4 years, the sled manufacturers have built sleds leaps and bounds better than his current one in terms of weight, handling, power and features.

Now I rode with several 08' Summit 800R X's and Everests this past weekend, even rode my buddie's 800 154" a bit. I liked it but didn't care for the ultra aggressive C&A skis he put on. The only problems the sleds had was that the handwarmers quit on just about all of them, a minor problem but not the end of the world. No belt problems, no motors making funny noises and stopping, nothing.

So on to my question, with Doo's 07' year being a bit shaky and a reading a few horror stories of motors going south on here, would those of you who bought a Summit XP do it again? And for what reason? I've spent about 20mins total riding one of these things but are they really the cat's a$$ for a stock sled (generally what my dad rides)?

Thanks

I would do it again in an instant - My grips did quit but its a problem caused by the insulation and doo is taking care of it (or at least my dealer in Kamloops is taking care of it)
oh - Im still on the original belt too
The engine issues that SOME of the 07s had has been addressed...

in a second,,:D:D, got to ride a sno pro 153 m8 and thought that it could be a sled to have if the xp faulters until i ran it around in 3 feet of snow yesterday,,,it's pretty ill handeling when it's on 1 ski ,the one in the powder seems to have a mind of its own, it wants to steer its self in every direction:BAD( guess i'll stick with the dragon as #2 for me

I know I bleed DOO Yellow but................

I wasnt going to buy an XP this year, was going to wait and see how we liked my wifes who changed, but I ended up getting an excellent offer on my 06 that had never been beaten and was what I thought to be my "perfect" sled , so I had to buy an XP and all I can say is both our XP's would literally STOMP my old 06 on its best day, to answer your question..................

YES!, it really is "The Cats Azz!":D:D:D

BUT, it is not a pull & go sled, its a "TUners Sled" but the results are phenonimal!!!

Even with the issues I have had I would still buy an xp, I am not a brand loyal type of person, however I love the handling of this sled. It makes me feel like a better rider.

Once we get the clutching dead on it will be the sled to beat for sure. I rode an 04 polaris and my buddies 07 skidoo 800 this past week when my sled lost a cylinder and I really wanted the xp back.

It took me a couple of trips to figure out the handling on this sled, needed to stand back further but now I can put it wherever I want it to be. Just a blast to ride.

I seriously doubt it ! Maybe when BRP starts firing some engineers and getting stuff right from the beginning. They had it all figured out in 06 then they turn around and screw their customers with the XRS and lied again in 08 with this XP. I will never listen to a skud rep again, crooked Bit%^ !

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes

In a second. This is the best sled I have ever ridden. As far as the minor problems (mine has none), what new snowmobile has EVER come out (that works) that had no problems. Take a look at Poo or AC's new mountain sleds. The M7 or M8 had some issues and the IQ 900 was a joke.

the thing that pisses me off is, they had all year to test, had 150 proto last year and the new frame worked great, cluching was great, no belt eaters, hand warmers worked great, and over all sled was to die for...

now one year latter we get our sleds, they still have a great frame, but eat belts and the hand warmer thing... they had all spring and summer to test their changes and we get still the problems

this is a quality control issue and should be caught by brp, this sled had the chance to be the best ever sled out of the box hands down... but now is plagued with this crap... as a Canadian company i would suspect the best

now one last thing, this is the best sled i have ever had hands down and BRP deseves a high five for it... great job :D:beer;(bit contradictive but from the heart)

I'm curious what issues your having with your XP and BRP aside from the belt, clutch and motor problems? Seems like most people are happy with them. Just curious...

Damb straight!!!

I love it man! No problems and it feels t!ts. Its a great sled!

After I get home I want to go ride again. I miss it when i'm off it.

Chazzer:D

The proto's didn't eat belts?? That was one of the things people posted the most about!

Let me share my story.I had rev800 151 and handling was alot better compare XP specialy between trees and on hard pack I like alot to go wheelie
over small trees and bushes, you can throw old rev easily. Xp climbs alot better and you can side hill easeir.Xp has very very weak A-arm support I hit small rock on friday and my both A-arms deslocate very badly and another bad news came from dealer he said A-arm support bracket unavailable and he doesnt know when he will recive them.So my xp 800 going stay and I will wait and kick my self for a smart move to jump from my old rev to unproved xp

If we could just get some help on belt issues it would be nice. Very light and just as powerful as my 04 ported 800.

i had a 07xrs151 that ran great, since i got the xp out 5 rides latter there is no more comparsion... the xp is in a different league:D:D... just a blast

I've had 5 different Rev's,they've all been good, rode first time today doin some ditch bangin', and my first impression is EXCELLENT, it has gobs of power, with only 20 k's,I installed some huge vents from my dealer( $225.00) and no indication of ecxessive heat (although not much snow/load).
I've been siiting on the fence for a month reading all the negative posts, eve bought a used 06 X, my dealer said to ignore the internet "hype". I guess time will tell, but I sure do like it, and have no desire to ride the 06...which I will sell in the new year...I'll post in the use sleds for sale..Merry X-mas..

Aside from those issues? Aren't those serious enough issues? I'm hoping that Doo is able to remedy these issues.

In a second,I'd buy another now if I could swing it but I'll snowcheck a 09 and give the wife the 08.We've had a few belt issues but wow does this sled rock!

I ride a '07 159 and couldn't be happier. Best sled I've owned and I've owned them all. Riding partner has a XP 163 and with some clutching I can finally see where it has some advantages to the Rev chassis. And after seeing what a couple Dragon 800's can do, what the M1000's can do and now that my back has stopped aching from owning a Yami, I can honestly say that if I had to buy a new sled today or for next year, based on what I have seen it would be a Xp 163. And I an FAR from brand loyal, last year I owned a Cat, Yam and a Doo, before that a Polaris.

I have been out twice on the XP 163. I am a fairly large man. I have been having issues with the belt. However, my main issue is the springs are designed for someone who weighs 175-195 lbs. (According to dealer) Any bigger and even with the springs adjusted all the way it would still bottom out. In the quest to save weight I believe Doo built this sled for a light rider. So now after 200 more for stiffer springs in the rear, I still find that the clearance is not that great for a larger rider.

As compared to my other 5 revs, throwing it around and jumping on it is great once you get the rail stiffners because the sled was not made for larger riders and the rails will bend without them.

I would say...I need to diet...Yes. However, they should let buyers know that they are going to have to spend $ to get this sled adjusted to someone who is larger.

Would I buy it again? No. I think that a M1000 is more suited out of the box for a larger rider. If I weighed 215 lbs with all my gear and backpack then I would buy it again everyday of the week. It is way to much fun boon docking. As for climbing? I haven't got 100 miles on it yet so we will see.
