Curious about the XP. Would you do it again?

xp

if i ever get mine back from the dealer and get more than 70 miles om it this time with this new crank i can give you a opinion. as of right now 1 ride=3 weeks in shop for new crank. glad i have a reliable second sled to ride.

I was going to buy one , but after watching them perform in the deep and steep powder I am glad I didn't.
If you are a doo guy you will justify any thing no matter how many belts you will eat. Or hills you will have to turn out.;)

i cant believe we only had to pay 10.100.00 for this much fun. new sled every year so the answer is let,s sno check. (average mtn, miles per yr. 1800.)

I have been out twice on the XP 163. I am a fairly large man. I have been having issues with the belt. However, my main issue is the springs are designed for someone who weighs 175-195 lbs. (According to dealer) Any bigger and even with the springs adjusted all the way it would still bottom out. In the quest to save weight I believe Doo built this sled for a light rider. So now after 200 more for stiffer springs in the rear, I still find that the clearance is not that great for a larger rider.

As compared to my other 5 revs, throwing it around and jumping on it is great once you get the rail stiffners because the sled was not made for larger riders and the rails will bend without them.

I would say...I need to diet...Yes. However, they should let buyers know that they are going to have to spend $ to get this sled adjusted to someone who is larger.

Would I buy it again? No. I think that a M1000 is more suited out of the box for a larger rider. If I weighed 215 lbs with all my gear and backpack then I would buy it again everyday of the week. It is way to much fun boon docking. As for climbing? I haven't got 100 miles on it yet so we will see.

I dont know about you but i'm 240 plus the 12 pack of friends so i'm over 250 with gear and I have no problems with the suspension.

As for the 1000 cat, I dont feel that you should have to spend a couple more grand to make them go like a 1000 should go. I haven't seen a stock 1000 cat go exeptionally well yet. Once the pipe, y-pipe, boondocker, airbox, and track are changed then the are unreal.

but in canada the SP 1000 is 16000 and to spend an extra $3000?!

Not for me.

BTW- 13% tax on that $19000 too!!!

In a heartbeat, to me it's the funnest sled I've ever ridden period. So far no belt issues, but the hand warmers did go out about 50 miles or so. Hope to have those fixed this week. Throwing these sleds around is so easy, it makes anybody on one a better rider. I can vouge there a he11 of alot easier to dig out than a Apex. As for hitting a rock at 15 mph, and bending both the a-arms, I have a hard time beleiving that. I hit a rock at 30mph yesterday, and the sled flipped completly over, and the only damage was a chunk out of the ski and a stiff shoulder on me.

Yes, and Yes again!!

Yes, and yes again!! My wife and I bought two XP's, mine is a 154" and the wifes is a 146". Being a long time Yamaha riders we were concerned jumping ship for the XP's. Are last sleds were an 03 modded Viper and the tippy under powered don't let off the gas to fast or you will kiss the front bumper Phazer. The XP's are hands down the best sleds we have ever ridden and as to everyone saying these sleds giving all the owners problems, not in are camp. They are so easy to handle in deep snow (3' to 4') as well as on the trail (ditch banging), and the best thing is at the end of the day, we are not as beat up as we used to be when we were on Yamaha's. We still have 3 Yamaha's in are camp and still like to ride them, but untill Big Blue builds a lighter sled we will stay with Doo

So I got talking to my ol' man tonight about sleds. He currently rides an 04 Arctic Cat 1M 600 EFI 144, not a great sled by any means but it gets around ok. I told him that in the past 4 years, the sled manufacturers have built sleds leaps and bounds better than his current one in terms of weight, handling, power and features.

Now I rode with several 08' Summit 800R X's and Everests this past weekend, even rode my buddie's 800 154" a bit. I liked it but didn't care for the ultra aggressive C&A skis he put on. The only problems the sleds had was that the handwarmers quit on just about all of them, a minor problem but not the end of the world. No belt problems, no motors making funny noises and stopping, nothing.

So on to my question, with Doo's 07' year being a bit shaky and a reading a few horror stories of motors going south on here, would those of you who bought a Summit XP do it again? And for what reason? I've spent about 20mins total riding one of these things but are they really the cat's a$$ for a stock sled (generally what my dad rides)?

Thanks

I had 3 sleds last year, M8, M1000, and a XRS, sold all of them and got a XP 154X and I would do it again and again, Its the best sled I have ever riden

In the last 5 years I have boaght an 800 RMK escape , 900 MC, 900 King Kat, 2 M7's (one with a UBR 900), M1000 and now a XP 154. Obviously I am not brand loyal. This is by far the most fun sled to ride out of the crate than any of them. The only thing I would do different is get a 163.
And by the way none of them were perfect out of the box. They all had minor issues. The M1000 never stopped eating belts, went through one every other ride of so.

I was going to buy one , but after watching them perform in the deep and steep powder I am glad I didn't.

Whatever:eek: I switched from a POLARIS to the XP and It is a whole different sport. This thing climbs like no other. My Friends are still in shock on what I can do with it...they were so used to watching me on the RMK that they cant fathom with a real Sled I can go places. The XP just floats through 5 feet of Powder. Climbs through it to! Everybody on a XP Saturday was climbing up and through stuff all the 07 Doos and the Dragon got silly stuck in. Jumps like a billy goat to! Handwarmers work great! Belt and Clutch heat is a bummer that I am sure they will cure! Not sure if it is 37% stronger??? Maybe there are just more rocks to hit this year! Fixing the Damage can wait till the parts are stocked and the POWDER dies down! The XP is the best thing that ever happened to Snowmobiling. What will come from thisyear is the next 2.0 evolution of Sleds as now all the manufacturers have to think outside the BOX:beer;

Best sled I ever had. Only the Rev's were able to follow us to any degree last week on Baker in some real deep stuff. Light and fun and I am 225 in my birthday suit! If I let someone ride it...I can't imagine wanting to ride theirs. Ok, maybe a 300hp Apex for a short blast up the mountain. Nothing else is interesting. Mine a 163 and glad I did that. Early snow check was 154 but my buddies went 163 and I got to thinking...that I had NEVER shortened a track in my 20 years of this rediculously expensive and addictive sport...so bumped to 163.
Also...the quick release on the weight transfer bar is sooo cooool! Off for play...back on in seconds for the road trip to the pickup. What a difference.
