Cure for the trenchmaster M1000?

Buddy picked up a 2009 M1000 Saturday.

Stock cept for a can and a 2010 style seat.

We didnt touch the suspension.

In powder the sled trenches like a piece of industrail grade earthmoving equipment!

Clutch engages hard....

Whats the hawt setup for a 250 fat boy to get this big bastage up on the snow?

Love the motor as the sled makes wicked power and seems proportionally correct for a big guiy...Buddy is a fat lazy sit down point and shoot rider. He was climbing and railing a steep bowl on the big Uno Litre yesterday and never took his fat arse off the seat!!

I'm a Skidoo rider and my XP dosent trench out like his 1000....I also stand up when I ride but???

Any assistance would be much appreciated on what we should do with the suspenders to make this thing work..

153 track. 09' M1000 Base.

Fox Zero pros front and the Float zero pro mix on the arse end. Dillicked around with the pressure in the float to no avail.....This thing could dig the trenches for a new natural gas pipeline in its stock form!

what's the rear shock psi set as? how much preload do you have on the front skid shock?

also, with the amount of power of 1000 has you can't just smash the throttle out of the hole and expect it not to dig a hole. you need to ease into the throttle a little more than a usual sled with less power/torque.

Also, tell your friend to stand up. does he sit to pee too!?

also - which hole is the skid in at the rear? Should be in the top one for less trenching.

PowerWorld Sticker

Clutch engages hard....

It's the damn powerworld sticker on the side. Take that off... problem solved. HA! Those bastards screwed me last year and trust me I'll never forget!

Hard take offs? check belt, if it's worn it will affect engagement. Should be smooth. Check alignment, clean clutches, check weights and springs for binding. Just places to start.

I'm 230-235 in gear and it trenches but not aggressively. When he can feel it trenching he should back out a bit and let it crawl back on top. works for me. really fluffy stuff they all trench, would be worse without the powerclaw. The 046 belt also works better (IMO) here in colorado as it allows an extra 200 r's and keeps the big 1 liter in check at our altitude. hope this helps a bit, but belt wear is a huge indicator of high engagement and will cause it to trench aggressively at take off. BREAK BELTS IN!! 20-25 miles of trail riding make a huge difference on belt life!!

as for the clutch engaging hard, check the deflection. too loose will cause hard engagments!

Dunno and dunno....Was gonna call you later this week and pick your brain on this thing!

My Buddy is the fat lazy sit down King! He does the same thing on the trail on one of my KTM's.....

Somehow he actually pulls it off tho? The guy was climbing and clearing a steep nasty bowl yesterday and never stood up cept when he dropped back in.

I'll check the preload it looks like barely any on the front shocks now...I need a better Gauge to check the Float where should that be for a fatassed sitdown slob?

I will check the deflection and check which hole the thing is at on the skid...

LOL....Ol' Clint got the price so cheap we had to buy it there! Plus the owner whips up us some very tasty BBQ'ed burgers on request as we stand around....Waiting.

Sled was delivered with no air in the float shock, the gas gauge is spewing fuel down the side of the tank (O-Ring?) and the injectors were clogged from it sitting? and it took a while to get it running. Short of those issues? We are kinda buddy buddy with Clint, Josh gives us parts essentially at cost and I honestly wouldnt feel right buying anywhere else.

you need the fox float pump - also, if you don't know this about these floats. you to set their air pressure with NO weight on the shock. i think everyone was running them around 130psi or something close? if you don't run enough pressure in them the thing will wheelie and trench like a muther.

We put 110 in at the dealership after leaving the first time with no air at all.

We did not set the 110 with the skid elevated...Oops!

It wheelies like crazy and trenchs as bad.....The base model M1000 with only one float dosent come with the pump.

Gonna hafta get one bought I guess....Thanks Mang!

The base model dose not come with a pump, just get a bike pump, 150 psi pump,

For what the float pump costs just buy it and throw it in your pack or tail trunk. That way if you need to adjust it on the hill you can just throw the sled on its side and easily adjust the pressure. I have an 08 M1000 153 and I run the rear float at about 135. I'm 6'2" 160lbs though.

Don't know the dealer, but if they didn't know to lift the sled before pumping up the shock, and you had issues getting it running, that doesn't seem like service to me, JMO.

Chaz, I'll be riding this weekend, give me a call on the way up, I'm right on your way.

btw, adjust RPM's with weights, not belt, if it's not running proper RPM, we've got stacks of stockish weights hanging around (75-80gms). The 046 works but not as well as the 060 or xs817.

psi in the shock is pointless if it doesn't match the rider. 110 psi is laughable for a fat boy, you'll be topping that thing out at around 155 for him.

btw, slap his lazy azz & tell him to learn to ride. I'll come play with you guys this weekend if you're getting out & help set it up for him.

Whats up Kaleb!

You are the dude who is essentially responsible for that M1000 being on the trailer! After my buddy spent a day reading your M1000 posts he was sold.

I'll hit you up later this week....may be doing Snowy Range...Dunno. Depends on how much snow we get this week.

I believe factory settings are 140 psi in rear shock.

Being low when you bought it makes me wonder if it doesn't have a bad seal and leaked down while on the hill?

It was essentially empty when we bought it.....Its holding now.

We need a lil' Fox Float pump.

I say we as I own half of this Beast....It lives in my garage Mso'ed in my name...I had to cover a a bunch of cash my Boy was short on this sled. So I have an interest in making sure this sled in dialed in. I may end up as the sole owner come next summer!:face-icon-small-hap

get rid of that hideous windshield and she'll start looking good.

if your running that little bit of psi in the track shock and didn't have it unloaded no wonder the thing sucked!

and ya, tell your bud to learn to ride. this ain't no sit down watercraft! :D

Have you had the "talk" with the lazy sob yet? You know, the one that goes "Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is no way to go through life son?" The least kev can do is stand up when he rides. Let me guess, he took a nap in the truck on the way home too.

Actually he almost froze to death as I pulled retardo move of the year award and left the lights on the truck on when we pulled off and rode. When we loaded the sleds and went to start the truck? Click. A good 10 miles from the nearest life form up that closed road to Cottonwood pass.....

Needless to say I walked for hours down that road until I found a house and a guy with Jumper cables.....

I'm a Rookie for sure as "King Kev" smokes me in the steep stuff sitting on his fatass!!
