Cummins Tech's!!! Need some help.......

Wow, Seriously $1100.00 a piece? That is way to much for an injector, especialy re-worked stock Bosch Injectors.

that would be 1100 dollars to modify your injectors....so you just need to send in a good set.personally Iam just going to get a set of nozzles and install them myself.not sure if anyone offers edm nozzles only for the common rail so i will just use a set of ddps.Ive changed nozzles on two sets of 24 valve injectors, never had them pop tested, and in both cases they ran great. just my 2 cents

The HPCR fuel system is a bit more sensitive, if you get any spec of dirt or debris in the system it WILL screw things up with injection pressures being 24,000 lbs!

F1 Doesnt supply just nozzles for just that reason! And they are the best money can buy IMO.

I think I'm gonna go with a FASS 95g/h kit w/3 micron filters with any injector upgrade I go with to help filter the fuel better.

What is the turn around time when sending a set of Injectors into F1Diesel?

I remember don saying that if you wanna up the shipping, overnight to F1, usually 1 day turnaround, (sometimes 2 or more depending on injector conditions) and overnight back. Shell out some extra $$$ for shipping and your lookin at 3-4 business days.

Stock CP3 and the 95 FASS is sufficient, if you plan on upgrading later, the modded CP3's like high consistant pressure, if you crank up the 95 you will get inconsistant fuel supply that the pump doesnt like. The 150 can get high pressure with little fluxuation in supply pressure/GPM which the modded pumps really like!

Definetly something to chew on. I may just end up giving F1 a call, but I need to find out what the for sure problem is when it goes in for warranty.

Thanks Guys:beer;

You may want to check around at turbodieselregister.com or dtr.com for more clues to your maladies. Wha they might say is that you have cracked an injector tip and you could be hanging by a thread if it lets loose - it'll hole a piston and then things won't be pretty.

F1 and DDP injectors/nozzles are some of the best for a Cummins with the DDP JammerII's being the most common. The DDP's injecotr sets are tested on Bosch equipment as they are on a a very few stations with HPCR test stuff.

Your dealer is a tool. But, the next dealer may havea a way better tech and may find the BD footprint since it is a programmer and not an "interceptor" like an EDGE Juice. Even so, the emissions and engine hard parts warranty is 100K so you should be able to have some piece of mind. If you have a BHAF, or an AFE or other filter system the techs are instructed to back off and have your warranty flagged so go back to stock before you take it in. Just my $.02.

My Bullydog Tripledog tuner didn't leave any footprints and the dealership said the intake was ok and wouldn't red flag my warranty. I'm thinking it's debris that might have gotten through the crappy Dodge 10 micron fuel filter. I hope the 5's workout better. Even changing these filters every oil change you'd think debris wouldn't have that much of a chance getting through.

Well an update on the 5.9 issue..........

#2 and #6 injectors were bad and replaced under warranty. No internal damage was done. (pistons, etc....)

Lithia Dodge in Missoula did an excellent job with parts and service and a turn around time of 2 days (included an updated front end, alignment and injection system flush). They waved the diagnostics fee unlike my dealership in my home town who charged me for 2 diagnostic fee's and wasn't going to honor the 100,000/mile engine warranty because the truck wasn't purchased at their dealership.

Thanks for all the help!

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Late to the thread but we're seeing terrible fuel around these parts. To be honest, I'm suprised these filters are doing as good a job as they are considering how terrible the fuel has gotten.

I run the Baldwin PF7977 fuel filter in my 5.9L Cummins. It is a 5 micron fuel filter unlike the Napa And Dodge filters that were 10 micron. I was informed that both Napa and Dodge switched to a 5 micron recently but are almost double the price of the Baldwin filter. Fleetgaurd is another filter that has been a 5 micron from the beginning, which is why my filters (oil, fuel and trans.) come from heavy equipment shops and not automotive.

Another note: The Baldwin fuel filter still snaps into the housing lid for easy removal unlike the newer napa filter which is smaller making it a PITA to get out and replace.

Agreed Dave, the fuel is very terrible around here also. Going to install a Fass fuel pump for more fuel supply and better filtration. I believe Fass runs 3 micron filters.

I have seen a few issues with injectors giving issues until the motor is up to temp. Dont think it is an FCA or pressure relief vavle, issues would be consistant.

The thing is with injector issues there are numerous things that can happen and will give many diffrent results.

not to sure about the fca comment every once and awhile my 03 would smoke at cold start, run like crap and peg the rail gauge at 30k then go away....and then run just fine. just replaced the fca it hasnt returned yet....knock on wood.

Yeah, I think your right after thinkin about it, the majority of FCA failures ive seen were on the mechanical side (internally). I guess a loose conection on the electronic side could easily yeild intermitten issues.

kinda an update to my situation with injectors. last sunday I pulled them out of my 04.5 and took them to the local diesel shop to be calibrated. well they all checked out and were calibrated and cleaned. truck no longer smokes, runs smooth..stock it will now hit 35 lbs of boost and hold 32-33.egts are about 100 degrees cooler full throttle. guess after 115,000 miles they just needed a little tlc. this truck gets filled up at so many different stations it must have taken a toll on them. its getting a better filtration setup next week aswell.I will say they shoud have thought out the hold down design a little better....pulling the exhaust rockers just for injectors is a little ridculous.

Sound like yours fared out a little better than mine did, I ended up with 2 injectors cracked at the tip. Glad you got it fixed.
