Cummins Programmer

Go with a south bend set up we have a few 3500 dodges that we put smartys in and the stock clutch dosent quite cut it

This depends on how much your pulling. With a Smarty, the low end is NUTS! It will spin your clutch fast if your not careful. Heck, I blew my G56 up with the Smarty on the 120hp setting. Southbend FE clutch dont let go, the tranny did.

In all honesty, buy the Smarty, put it on the lowest setting for torque, then when you can upgrade other parts, you will have a programmer that can grow with you. I can guaranfreakingtee you will be happy with the Smarty.

your g56 let go before the clutch? how did that happen? the only failures I've heard on the G56s are on pulling trucks making over 700hp..

I have a 07 with the smarty Jr and muffler delete. It rocks! I have pulled heavy on #2 "70hp" with no problems. I can beat a 1500 hemi no problem:face-icon-small-coo

^^^^^True this! I just wish my Ford had nearly the throttle response my Cummins has with the Smarty.
On my 07' 5.9, I tried Edge, Bully Dog, and then bought the Smarty. The Bully dog worked good, just got hot. The Smarty is great on this pickup.
On my 05', our Edge works really good too. I put the Smarty on it to see how it would perform, and it was just marginally better on it. So I left the Edge box on it.
While I had the Bully dog on my truck, less than 4 months, I went through 4 Outlook Monitors! Not so sure about there quality control.

When you said the Bullydog got hot, did you have it set to de-fuel? They have that ability. The Smarty is very good and like I said, did run cooler EGT's in my 04.5 Cummins. Why did you do through so many outlook monitors? I've sold quit a few with no problems.

:eek:Wow! That is un heard of:confused:.......We've just had clutch's slip, never a tranny go yet.

No, I like the ability to use my foot to defuel. Even with the boost fooler, the truck got hot. Not as hot as the Edge in this truck though, as I remember anyhow....

I dont know what the deal was with the monitor. The dealer said he had one in four back in for repait.....I just happend to get four in a row that were bad. The last one I had did not show any number correct. I could adjust the tune, but none of the numbers were correct.....

Well knock on wood I guess, Hopefully I don't come across that problem with any of mine. Bullydog has always taken care of me though:)

Get yourself the Smarty or Smarty JR

I have a late 03 with the HO (305hp/555 ft lbs), 48RE auto and 3.73s.

I have the Smarty Junior, Scotty air intake and Goerend valvebody in mine with 35" Toyo MTs.

I run mine in the 100 hp setting and I'm very happy. Gets good mileage and great power. A low of 15 MPG which was towing and around town in below zero temps. A high of 24 MPG with speeds of 65 or so and 285 tires. Got 20 MPG last weekend with a sled in the back.

I have the little boost elbow and boost is set at 28-30 lbs. About max for the 03-early 04 turbos. 04.5s-07 can run 40ish.

EGTs are very cool with the JR in 100hp. Gotta really be after it to get much over 1000 deg F. Don't know if I ever seen 1100ish? I haven't towed anything heavier then 2500 lbs, but that is with extemely hot summer temps and passes.

With a stock clutch, I would consider sticking to the 70 hp setting.

You could also get the regular Smarty, but resist the temptation to try the upper settings. It will smoke that clutch.

I had an 01 6 speed and I would recommend the South Bend Con OFE clutch. Excellent clutch and very driveable. Had the Juice and 100 hp injectors in that truck with no problems. Rated for 450 hp and you won't go over that without injectors and a turbo or possibly a CP3.

Just trying to decide between the smarty and the smarty JR now. Anyone know if the smarty has any lower hp settings that will get better mileage than the JR, or will they both have about the same mileage increase?

The SR has a 30hp setting which might get a little better MPG than the 40hp on the jr but the difference would be tiny. if you're just concerned about mpg i'd just go with the jr and save the $300..
