Crooked Creek Guest Ranch 2012 Conditions

Snow Forecasted!

The NOAA Forecast is looking good...5 days of SNOW! Just perfect for President's Day weekend...and for the rest of February. Stop out & tell us hi!!! :face-icon-small-hap

The verdict is in.....WE HAVE SNOW!

YES!!!! The snow gods listened and we got a nice dumping of snow the last few days. Hard to estimate the exact totals, as the wind blew some of it around, but suffice it to say that we're measuring in feet! Additionally, the forecast for the weekend calls for even more snow.....as this 2nd storm is supposed to be more powerful than the first! :face-icon-small-coo

Sure hope y'all get a chance to get out here to visit us and enjoy the fantastic conditions! Stay tuned for more updates this weekend, too.

Will be out there in 24-36hrs hows the snow looking.

And dont say white and cold.:face-icon-small-win

It is white and cold, but I won't tell you that....It has been snowing the last few days and continues to today, with a forecast that additionally calls for significant snow over the next 5 - 7 days. All of which is making conditions excellent for riding. Avy conditions, along with snow storms, are a concern....so it's necessary to go out prepared and know the weather forecast before you go.

By the time you read this, you'll probably already be out on a sled and will know exactly what the conditions are. I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Looking forward to seeing you soon.

this weekend/next week

My group is leaving on Fri night here in MN and staying with you starting next week.
What have the accumulations been in places?

For the most part, accumulations have been in the 15" to 30" range over the last couple of storms. We have, however, had some wind with the last storm, and so in places, the snow can be quite a bit thinner than that or much deeper than that, especially in the trees. As a consequence, avy conditions north and west of here have been prevalent, so care is required if heading that way. At least we did not receive any rain in the elevations below 7800' as did the Togwotee area.
Everyone who has been coming in off the mountain has been experiencing wonderful riding, so look forward to a great time!! See you soon.

I was out today with a group. The snow was really good. Surprisingly most of the common play areas hardly had any tracks in them. The new snow was anywhere from 1'-3'+ depending on the wind. You could feel some old tracks but for the most part everything has been covered by the new snow. Very few rocks and stumps to worry about anymore.

Snow overnight, sunshine today!

CAN YOU SAY POWDER??!!! Cuz that's what we've got!! Gorgeous day to be out riding....received 8" overnight here at the resort, with at least that at the higher elevations.

Come on out and enjoy the day....It just doesn't get much better than this!

Sno-Katers Radar Run tomorrow

The Dubois Sno-Katers are hosting their annual Radar Run tomorrow, Saturday March 10th. Please stop out to enter, watch and enjoy the competitors show off their sleds and expertise! Concessions and prizes are available. Make sure you cheer for your favorite team! :cheer2:

Crooked Creek is at one end of the race area, so be sure to stop in for some refreshments and to warm up.

The sunshine is gorgeous today and the forecast calls for sun tomorrow as well. Makes for some great views and vistas while you're out riding. Sunday & Monday are calling for snow, so it seems we'll be getting the best of both worlds this weekend. Hope you can get out here and enjoy it!!!! :face-icon-small-coo

Thanks Crooked Creek Guest Ranch

Our group would like to thank Nick and the gang at Crooked Creek for the great riding and hospitality. Nick took us to some untoched areas for some fantastic riding. We were treated like family for our entire stay at Crooked Creek. The riding south is great. Thanks!

Spring-like Conditions at Crooked Creek

Warmer temps have left the yard soft and wet, but still VERY RIDEABLE! Of course, conditions up on the mountain are still good. Snowfall yesterday was in the 2 - 3" range above 9000' Don't worry....winter isn't over with us yet. Several days of snow are in the forecast for the next 5 days. We'll keep you posted with snow totals as we know them.

In the meantime, be sure to get out and enjoy this time of year! Riding is comfortable when you don't freeze everything off! :o

Just so you are all aware, the Line Shack shut down for the season on Sunday, March 11th; however, Crooked Creek is OPEN YEAR ROUND, so we are always here for your food/beverage needs, as well as for 24-hour fuel and snowmobile permit stickers. We still have several Skidoo sleds for rent (or purchase...call us for details) and a good variety of sled parts available.

Give us a call if you want to do some Spring-time riding....888-238-2647! Thanks!

Cindy :attention:

Looking forward to your group coming! Just don't let that "wild hog" thing get the best of you....we want you to at least make it out here!!!!

As for the snow, the riding is good, especially above 9000'. Webcam from our yard shows a lot of wet snow and slop, but that's not a true depiction of the trails and meadows. Hopefully the snow and colder weather that is in the forecast for the next 5 days will solidify things up a bit before you get here. We're still doing our snow dance!!

Will update our conditions thread on Friday, so be watching for that before you leave for here. Thanks and see you soon.

Cindy

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Snow showers - some quite heavy at times - came on & off all day Saturday. Some wind and cloud cover also kept us colder than we've been for a few days. Spring-like conditions continue up on the mountains, but did improve today. Reports of 3 - 6" of fresh snow overnight in some areas, along with a continued chance of an additional 3 - 6" Sunday & Monday. Colder temps are also forecast, so definitely that will hold off any additional deterioration.

It's still only mid-March, so we certainly are looking forward to some heavy spring snow storms.....and the weather depiction charts indicate we could get some of what's hit the Sierra's soon. Keep your fingers crossed and may the luck of the Irish rub off on us and give us our wish!:tea:

Sunday Report

My lunchtime report from sledders coming in tell me that heavy snow fell last night and today up along Union Pass, especially south on the CD. Heavy enough that at times they were riding trail marker to trail marker! Enough snow and some wind makes all the areas look untouched, fresh & new!

Riders coming over from Pinedale say the pass was great and the ride was fun. So although our webcam shows some bare ground and slush here at the lodge, that is only here. All the riding areas and the trails are still great for springtime riding. :face-icon-small-win

I haven't heard anyone complain about conditions. Most find the snow better than expected and they are glad they came....especially when the alternative is to stay home and mow the lawn! Come on out an play with us in the snow a little bit longer.....you'll be glad you did! :juggle:

We're honoring our March Special into April, too....so now is the time to economically come and ride. Give us a call to reserve your spot now! 1-888-238-2647. And don't forget, we're open all year long, so consider us for your really late-season snowmobiling and non-snowmobiling trips, too. We offer ATV's/ORV's & horses for rent, along with event planning for family reunions, weddings and groups. Stop by anytime!! :welcome:
