Crankshaft Service Needs

I am considering a Ski-doo 800 mtn sled as my next sled and wondering if there are any special teardown and regrease requirements for the crankshafts on the newer sleds.

A few years ago I had heard the isoflex grease used in the crank bearings needed to be replaced every 2500 miles or so. I was checking the parts diagrams and dont see the isoflex shown for the newer machines while it shows for the 2008 model.

I owned a 92 580, a 95 summit 670 and a 99 670x and they were all very good machines. I had over 5000 miles on both 670's without any engine issues at all.

That's a good question, I would be curious too. I know that the Series 3? engines in the ZX models were isoflex rigs. Kinda a pain to rebuild and the grease was spendy at the time. THey were good though, I had about 10K miles on my 99 440 race sled, I had to replace the PTO bearings twice, never touched the others.

The isoflex grease does not need replacing, nor is there any intervals I am aware of. The issues with Ski Doo cranks, especially in 08' 09' and '10 was a "Lack" of isoflex grease from the factory. Combine this with a crank that is not true and you get failures very early in life. if you catch them early enough though, you can pull the crank, properly grease it and have it trued. This will add thousands of miles to the crank life.

With the advent of the ETEC motor, there have been upgrades and changes to the cranks in the Doo 800 engines. The flywheel has changed as well as the rods and, again, more grease.

The new cranks I have had out this year (For BB's) have been the best I have seen as far as being properly greased. We still add when needed and true them but they are much better than they were just 3 or 4 years ago.

I believe the Doo 800 is as reliable, and more so than some on the market today.
