Could I get some honest mpg ratings on a couple trucks please!?!

06 duramax crew 1 ton. mild tow program. mixed 3 place enclosed, around town driving 12.3 mpg for life of truck.

with summer tires, no load on a road trip it got 21mpg once (65-70 mph) but we have never seen that again!

summer tires no load 80-90 mph 14mpg

summer tires 6x12 single axle enclosed 80-85 mph 13 mpg

Had a few diesels. current is an 06 dmax 1 ton crew 8' box stock tires air box mod and hypertech tuner

everday 13-15
towing 4 place enclosed 80 mph 10-12
hwy driving decent 18-20
towing 10,000 5th wheel camper 8-10

I had a bunch of gas pickups and a couple suburbans too. The diesel is the choice if it's main function is for towing. Better towing capacity, stability, braking, etc. The power goes without saying. If you only tow a few times then weigh the costs and maybe a gas is the way to go.

As far as I can see, only one or two of you are telling the truth. Either that or everyone drives 60 mph. We have towed out west with all kinds of gassers and diesels doing 75-80 and never get better than 11mpg. Some of you guys on here are telling me with lifted trucks with big tires and you get 20mpg. BS!!

Just drove my 06 Dmax with 33" tires, bully dog chip on performance, and a 4" lift out to Fairview, Utah from Denver (~500 miles). Pulled my 3 place enclosed trailer with two sleds and got about 12mpg doing 75-80 up over San Rafael Swell, Vail and Loveland Passes (did not have the trailer tow option engaged). While I was there, I drove up to Salt Lake w/o the trailer and got about 19-20 mpg going 75-80 mph. And that aint no chit, Bacon! ;)

Bacon, just because you don't get good gas mileage doesn't mean other people don't! And when I'm pulling ANY trailer, I do the speed limit - seen too many trailers jackknife/flip over/detach and ruin whatever is on/in that trailer. Yes, my gas mileage plummets when I go over 60 - normal day to day driving (flat land) our cummins gets 16-20, depending on the conditions. City driving it gets around 12-15. Depending on what I'm pulling and the conditions, gets 9-15. (yes, this is hand calculations).

03 Cummins 3500 SRW, 3.73 gears, 6 spd, 6" lift, 37's, all stock.

Empty - 15 mpg in town, 18 mpg all highway
9-11 mpg towing 14,000 lbs
11-14 mpg towing a 3 place enclosed, depending on wind speed and direction
13-15 mpg with a deck and 2 sleds at 70 mph

When it was empty with stock tires, I could get 21 on the highway if I was easy on it. I'm going to change to 4.10's, add an intake, exhaust, and a chip to see if that helps get me closer to the 30+ mpg that other diesel owners seem to be getting:rolleyes:

come on now....you will only get 30 mpg if you add some 44 inch super swampers and a 10 inch lift....get your facts right!
oh and a chip wont help one bit....i have thousands of them and bunch of scraches and my mpg's are the same as new!:face-icon-small-hap

I have an 03 cummins 4 dr, 48Re auto tranny, edge EZ in 70 HP setting, Magnaflow 4" TBE, 285/70/17 tires, 3.73 gears, speedo corrected for the larger tires and Cummins premium blue 15W/40 synthetic.

Empty in town 18-20 MPG
Cruising under 65 MPH, 27 mpg
Cruising 65-80 MPH 21-23
Towing Haulmark 26' Flat front with 6 sleds and all gear for a week 12-14 MPG depending on wind/temps.

I am shooting to crack the 30 MPG mark. Going to add a smarty rather than the edge, a new Tq converter and valve body, air intake and Spal electric fans.

Long term plans include a set of towing twins :)

I've had a couple diesels and for work purposes I keep a spreed sheet on mileage, fuel usage, maintenance and warranty work.

2002 6.6 Dmax CCSB Auto 100,000 miles, 4" exhaust, air intake, edge with Att, 285,75,16 tires... 13 mpg average from day one, worse 9 mpg best 21.5. Last 50,000 miles pretty much 85% of it's life spent hooked to a 27" enclosed sled trailer and 34' toy hauler 5th wheel. Personal rig, couple minor warranty issues, lost rear axle seals at 80,000 miles.

2006 Dodge CCSB Auto 5.9 Cummins work truck completely stock other then one sized bigger tires. Pulls goose neck trailer average between 12,000-20,000 lbs. Sold with 135,000 miles averaged 11.5 for life of truck, worse was 4.9 mpg best was 23.8 according to records kept. Went through brakes every 30,000, lost injector at 125,000, front right hub locked up and took bearings at 60,000, major front end rebuild tie rods, ball joints, idler arm at 50,000, climate blend door on AC/heater system twice, AC compressor at 85,000.

2009 Dodge CCSB Auto 6 speed 6.7 cummings with exhaust brake work truck, completely stock. 7,300 miles so far. Worst 6.2mpg, average 13mpg, best 18mpg. Pulls good, like the transmission better then the 06 dodge and the exhaust brake works great.

Chevy is still my weekend driver and is way more comfortable then the 2 Dodges and I think pulls just a little bit better but I did do some power upgrades, shocks and air bags...
