00 ford ex v10 with 4.30 gears light foot i can get 13mpg wife 8-9 mpg
05 ford ex v10 with 3.73 gears light foot 1 can get 15-16 wife 11 mpg
4.10 7.3 i got 14 mpg all the time
3.73 7.3 i got 16 pmg all the time
05 cummins crew cab dully i got 17 all the time with the 2000 bed on the back stock bed i got 20-22 depending on how i drove it it was a stick.
07 chevy 2500 hd 6.0 (total pile of crap truck!!!!!!) 9-12mpg

Looking to get a new truck soon. I am not sure if I am going to go back to another diesel or go with a gas truck. I am looking at some Duramax's, Cummins with the 6 spd, Chevy's with the gas motor (not the 6.0) and some Ford V10's......

Any of you have any of the three I listed? If so please post what mpg you get and what all is done to your truck. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Sorry but no you cant. Its impossible to get honest fuel mileage numbers. Man must exagerate by 30 to 40 percent when it comes to this topic, dont ask me why, evolution I guess...:face-icon-small-coo... all in good fun

haha... thats funny! ^ I have an 02 powerstroke now but its killing my wallet. Has 255k on it with the 6 spd manual and now everytime I fix one thing two more break! I want another diesel but I don't know if I wan to spend another 30K on a truck and be at $500 a month for payments. That was the only reason i was thinkin of a gasser.

Get all the fellows that have replied to this thread to go out to their truck and do an average mpg test. take your current mileage and the gallons used(on gmc/chevy it keeps track of this) and do your calculation. I had an 08 duramax with leveling kit and 33" tires/20" rims and I averaged around 14mpg. That's pulling a trailer half its life. My current truck is an 09 gmc crew cab lly, 8" lift with 35's/22's and I am getting about the same mileage. some trips I get around 19, the same trip on another day is 16-17. Gmc must have a sensor in these trucks that as soon as a trailer coupler touches the ball on the truck the mileage drops to 10. No matter if it's a 1500 pd trailer, or my 40' toy hauler(I actually get 7-8 pulling this pig.

I tow with a 6.0 Ford.I fill the fuel tanks and I zero the mileage counter at Point A. I then proceed to Point B. I then read mileage counter and proceed to fill the tanks again. I then divide the gallons by the miles and instant fuel mileage. From Point A in Kansas to Point B in Fraizer Colorado I usually put in between 45 to 47 gallons of fuel for 600 miles and this would make an average of 13 mpg with wind mountain and whatever driving conditions we encounter. We have made the same trip with a gasoline powered truck and neither of us care for the result. The gas powerd truck makes about 8 mpg and doesn't pull near as good as the diesel. The gas truck would cosume 75 gallons of fuel in the same distance at a total to fill up at $187.50 with the diesel costing a total of $124.20. For the offset in price per gallon and the difference in mileage the diesel will role down the road for less and do a better job. I know the diesel has it's positives and it's negatives but when I hook onto a trailer I want to get the job done. Please remember this is just my opinion from my personal experience !! >>>>.

i drive an 01 chevy 2500hd ec/sb 8.1L/allison 4.10 gears with intake, custom tune, dual exhaust and 6" lift with 35"s. never really had it on a good highway drive but around town average is about 11 mpgs, and 8-9 mpgs pullin four sleds on the open trailer on steep windy canyon roads, not the best mileage but not bad for a 496 inch motor. was roughly 1-2 mpgs better with 285s before the lift and big tires. if your considering a gasser for a puller and dont need brand new i'd definately look into an 8.1 gm. in my opinon probably the best gasser pullin rig out there. wish they wouldnt have dropped it from the line up, lots more power than the 6.0 gasser and from what i've seen just as good of fuel mileage.

My 2007 6.0 gasser 6 speed only gets like 11 or 12 mpg most of the time.

Older, 2007 and earlier 5.3 1/2 ton gas trucks can get 18 or 19 mpg hwy. For some reason the newer 5.3 trucks have gone down in mileage.

2004 Chevy diesel gets like 16mpg with 265s hwy and 12mpg towing.

Ha ha ha ha ha....funny. pickin up on the south park.... tuk er jerbs! only my ford gets like 60 mpg highway sooooo

06 Duramax - 13 around town 17-18 hwy (in the mountains)
05 5.3 Chevy - 13-14 around town, easily 18-19 hwy (in the mountains)

The 1/2 ton was a better everyday truck and did better in the snow empty. Pulled my 2-3 place single axle trailer with little problem, but had to dig down on the passes. The crappy transmission was the only real weak spot with that truck.

My Duramax absolutely rips with any load! I pulled my trailer with 3 sleds loaded with gear at 90 mph with no problems. Now I have a sled deck and often take two sleds with no air bags and it doesn't even lean in the hard turns.

Just comes down to what you need.

Some of those mileage ratings are awfully high, I wish all the diesels I had got that good of mileage. Pulling big trailers they have always seem to fall off big time for mileage...8-10 at best on up and down terrain.

03 Cummins 3500 SRW, 3.73 gears, 6 spd, 6" lift, 37's, all stock.

Empty - 15 mpg in town, 18 mpg all highway
9-11 mpg towing 14,000 lbs
11-14 mpg towing a 3 place enclosed, depending on wind speed and direction
13-15 mpg with a deck and 2 sleds at 70 mph

When it was empty with stock tires, I could get 21 on the highway if I was easy on it. I'm going to change to 4.10's, add an intake, exhaust, and a chip to see if that helps get me closer to the 30+ mpg that other diesel owners seem to be getting:rolleyes:

08 6.7 cummins completly not stock, finaly found the formula to get 17 on highway empty, 13 pulling a 30ft gooseneck with 8k pound truck on it but i was driving like a grandma. i usualy get 10 pulling.

Right now I have an 01 Dodge 2500 Cummins extended cab with 130,000+ on it. Driving down the highway, I get around 16 if I'm leadfooting it and around 18 cruise control. When I'm towing my horse trailer or snowmobile trailer, I'm getting between 11 and 13.

From other experience: the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke sucks. Three of my friends have had blown heads within the last year on theirs. The 7.3 so far has been fairly reliable for our other two friends (over 200,000 on one-ton). The newer Duramax's seem to be having problems with the tranny's and transfer cases (friends just blew at 120,000).

If you're looking for MPG's, go for a diesel. You just aren't going to get the higher MPG's with gas trucks...

Have fun shopping!

MPG

any truck I have ever towed with (I have driven or owned ford SDs, duramax, 5.9's and gas V10's V8's etc) Has never gotten better than 11mpg towing a 4place.....EVER! The Dodge V10 got the worst @5.9mpg and the 01 Dodge 5.9 got the best with a mild tune @ 11 mpg. Your right foot is what dictates fuel milage. I was just on a trip out west in an 07 silverado 1500 with 3 sleds and gear and we got 12-12.5 (calculated on paper). Why? because we kept it around 70, not 80.

mileage

'02 Duramax drove 180,000 miles, 16.5 to 17 consistently
"03 Duramax made the same
'08 Duramax currently 80,000 miles and gets 15.5
'09 Duramax currently getting 16.1
'10 Dodge Mega with Cummins.......14.1 across Kansas, both directions at speed limit, not pulling a thing......very disappointing.
All mileages are hand calc.
Duramxes when pulling enclosed in mountains would all drop by about 4 mpg when running hard.

07 dmax stock pulling 3 horse gooseneck trailer loaded 11-13mpg enclosed sled trailer 28 foot 12to13. On the highway empty couldnt tell you always pulling the horse trailer. 09 hd 6.0 empty 15 loaded same goosneck 9 to 10. here is my idea if your going to use the diesel buy one if i didnt have a barrel racing wife i would have the gas for the extra cost . power of the d max or any diesel is great i work on cummins every day so i am not a hatter just a gm person if i could have got a cummins in a chevy i would buy it both of these truck are stock and i have 285 on the d max

04 Ford v-10 king cab short box F-250 empty on highway 15.5
around town 12.5 -13.5
sled deck on with 2 sleds 13.25 average
3 place enclosed with 3 sleds 11
I've found with my truck the "sweet spot" is around 70 on the freeway.
