Could I get some honest mpg ratings on a couple trucks please!?!

Looking to get a new truck soon. I am not sure if I am going to go back to another diesel or go with a gas truck. I am looking at some Duramax's, Cummins with the 6 spd, Chevy's with the gas motor (not the 6.0) and some Ford V10's......

Any of you have any of the three I listed? If so please post what mpg you get and what all is done to your truck. Any info is greatly appreciated!

i have '04.5 lly and i use to calculate everything by hand and it was right on with mpg computer,in town i get 16-17,hwy 19-20 i run edge w/attitude level 1 for millage, stock exhaust

New gas HD Chevy's are all 6.0 with a 6 speeds. For what it's worth, I kept gas receipts for every tank of gas I bought for my 1/2 ton 01 Silverado 5.3. The first 100,000 averaged out to 13.89mpg. The crank sensor was the only part to fail just before 100,000 miles. This truck is a keeper!!!

2007 Chevy 2500 HD Dmax, long box, crew cab, auto. It's the 6.6L LBZ motor. Stock motor, 17x70x285 tires. I get around 14-15 mpg. I'm low on the spectrum.

My buddy has a short box 2006 crew cab LBZ, auto, with stock wheels and tires (245s) and gets 18 mpg or better. He went up to 265s and lost 1-2 mpg. Gave those back to Les Schwab within a couple of weeks.

Both are 4wd

But it rides soooooo nice and comfy. One of the best "cars" I've ever had :)

I average ~16 mpg on the highway with my work truck ...2009 GMC 2500HD 6.0L .... It doesn't really get near as good of mileage as I had hoped it would when you take into account I get ~15 on the highway with my 8.1L big block.

2002 f250 v10, I get 13 free way driving 70ish over sumer 10 winter, pulling my 7.5x20 enclosed or the skidloader i get around 9.5 sumer and 8 winter long as i stay below 65 anythign above that pulling and i might get 7 on a good day.

'99 F250 S/C S/B SRW V10 A/T. Headers, 4"catback, Banks intake, custom tune. 13mpg hwy empty if I'm lucky but have seen 16 with a tail wind going 45-55, 9 around town with my lead foot, 7 pulling my 40' 5th wheel.

I had a 2007 chevy 5.3 on trips get 19 to 21 mpg if you kept it 60 or below pulling four place 9.5 to 6 depending on how much wind. Now i have a gmc 2009 duramax we get on trips 18 to 20 mpg try keep it below 70 or it really goes down pulling we have seen up to 14 mpg but avg 11 or 12 . Oh stock engine and wheels.all hwy mpg

2003 2500HD 4X4 Duramax Edge with attitude(setting 3),5" exhaust and K&N airfilter& intake tube. Average 17 to 19 mpg . If driven conservative on highway 23 mpg.

I've got an 08 Dodge 3500 Dually and with 5" tbe; xrt on 60 hp; egr missing; fitch fuel catalyst; Banks CAI; I'm getting 17.5 empty hwy and 14 towing my 24' Halcraft trailer if I'm gentle.

I have an 07 Dodge dually with the 6.7, on the fwy loaded with the lance 12 footer with slide and 3 place trailer I will only get 10 to 11 miles to the gallon. Empty with a lance canopy I will get 16 to 17, both mileages are at about 70mph. With the new exaust on the cummins and that dang particulate filter really messes up the fuel milage. Oh and completly stock no chip!

I had an 04.5 Duramax, it got 15-16 on the freeway, 11-12 towing 6,000lbs
I have an 07 5.9 Cummins, it gets 14 on the freeway, and 10ish towing the same.

I believe that years of Duramax had an cooling issue....they got warm. I never had an issue.

Lets see here-
79 ford f350 4x4-10mpg
78 Toyota Landcruiser-14mpg
97 Dodge cummins w/5spd 18mpg
05 Escalade 6.0 345hp- 14mpg
01 Honda Accord 28mpg
And I love them all!!

Thanks for the replies! I was told if I get a duramax to get an 04 or newer. What was the difference between the 02/03's and the 04 and newer?

I have an 02 d-max for work with 170000 miles. Only problem it has ever had is a bad shift module on the tranny.
My 04 personal d-max has 100000 miles, it has had a set of injectors, under warranty. Both trucks get 15-16 mpg on the interstate at 80 mph. If you keep them under 65, two lane roads, 20 mpg is average. I love them, would never go back to a gasser.

If you can get a newer, I don't know the year, 05 or 06 with the 6 speed tranny. That would be the only reason I would upgrade.

06 Cummins Mega Cab 6speed manual (totally stock) 3.73 285's pulling a 4 place enclosed Haulmark trailer loaded for bear 8-9 MPG @ 70ish. Empty everyday driving avg 15-16. Hand calculated and tire corrected. Had a 06 Duramax Long Box Crew cab w/ 3.73s and 265 tires and got the same mpg unloaded but about 9-10 loaded. (drove it more like a sports car though) Hands down, my '95 Stroke got the best MPG of all diesels I've owned towing or empty. Towed "almost" as well also.

1st gen cummins powered ford- towing 6000-8000 lbs careful 18-19 mpg . around local hotrodding 14-16. one trip from red lodge mt to logan ut. got 22.5 . putting down 300+ hp and 800 ft -lbs @ wheels. with a diesel tuning is a big factor. towing heavy-20k plus around 12-15 depending on speed. the best ive seen was my dads 06 dodge common rail 6spd 1 ton dually crew cab. 22.5 empty on freeway at 75 mph. go with a diesel in my opinion. any brand.
