I built a set of heated bars last year and they work great. I would like to add a shutoff valve. I am running coolant from an Avid bypass thermostat, do I need a bypass valve to keep coolant flowing or can I just install an inline shutoff?

Thanks. That would explain why my bike runs 10* hotter in warm conditions than my buddy's bike that is identical other than mine has a thermostat and carb heater.I installed a valve in the bypass line and the handle bar supply. That way when you don't want bar heat you can shut it off. Having a valve in the bypass line has two advantages, first it allows you to direct more flow through your bars and not the bypass and second when its a warm day and your bike is running hot you can restrict the bypass flow and force more fluid through your rads once the t stat has opened to help cooling. The bypass flows a surprisingly large volume of fluid if not choked down.

out cutting out trails today, on and off the bike, running the saw and knocking frozen snow of logs we had to throw off the trail, hop on the bike and ohhhhh those carb heated bars felt n i c e !
YEAH CARB HEATED BARS !, not sure where that came from, correction.
bypass loop out of my THERMO BOB heated bars. My bad.
thanks for keeping me on track
Whoa dude..... light hearted joke there.
No disrespect intended
so his glue was fine ? what glue ?
thanks
we used:oh i understand that
he said they thought his Pals glue plug was leaking
but it sounds like it wasn't i was just checking
and secondly i was curious what glue they used
thanks
Anyone know if the TrailTech in-line water temperature sensor has the 1/8 BSPP temp sensor embedded in it?
Looking to do heated bars, and wanted to use the in-line temp sensor housing as the return from the bars and then thread the 1/8 BSPP into my thermobob...
