I rode a 14 pro and xm yesterday for a couple hours each. I'm trying to decide which one to get for next year. I'm used to a boosted nitro so they're both different. I like the pro a little better but I'm worry about all the stories of reliability with the pro. Plus after lunch it wouldn't start... Lol. So tell me why I should get the pro but Please don't bash the doo :) I don't want this to turn into a bash fest lol

Can't judge the reliability of an xm.I can on the pro.I had a 12 pro 155 and other than an exhaust sensor it was bullet proof till I traded it in with original belt @ 1550 miles. My Friday built 163 le 14 has been a real POS.I'm on my 5 the trip to dealer with warranty issues in 640 miles.A quick run down of issues, blown belt @100 miles, brake light switch wire rubbing causing guage malfunction, perrenial bog from 300-575 miles finally fixed with new injectors (at my urging), TSS switch throwing codes,Blew another 115 belt yesterday @630 miles.Currently back at dealer something not right with clutch/belt alignment. Take it what it is this ones a real turd.

You rode both sleds your interested in for a couple hours, back to back, in the same snow conditions. Its doesn't get much better then that when trying to make a decision.

Pick which one you liked better. No point in playing the "what if" game. You can find guys with 3,000 trouble free miles or 3 blown motors on either sled. The WWW. makes these kind of issues much bigger then they really are.

at the end of the day buy what feels better to you. It sucks to get a lemon, but something you can never know until you have the machine. Your taking a chance of getting a lemon with whatever brand you buy(polaris had a bit of bad track record with their motors which seem to be getting better) my 13 pro had 600 miles trouble free no belt blowing miles. Ran a little hot on the trails but scratchers fix that. I sold the 13 and snowchecked a 15 pro 800. Keep us posted.

I've been riding with a group of guys running Pro's since 2011. If I had to guess we've probably logged 20,000 total miles, 5,200 have been my own (600 on a new 2014 I picked up a few weeks ago). We have never had any issue with any of them in the field that required being towed to the truck. I have had to field adjust the throttle cable free play dozens of times when the sled would bog, backfire and miss, but it only takes about 15 seconds to fix. In the powder it will eat XM's for lunch, on the hardpack a well tuned Pro (8,000 RPMS) will run as strong as a well tuned E-Tech. The factory clutching recommendations are spot on and there's no need for cans, heads, pipes, porting, race fuel, fuel controllers, they just run fantastic day in day out. My 2014 is looking as great as my high mileage 2012 (gas and go). 416 Lbs. is so easy for an old grandpa like myself to get unstuck (not that sticks happen very often). The throttle free play which works in harmony with the TSS is the reason a lot of Pro's sit in the shop for months on end with uninformed technicians changing out every part on the sled over the coarse of a season giving the pro a bad rap, it really is a non-issue, tighten it up and ride!!!! I will also add that the stock handlebars have got to be the worst bars ever put on a sled, they are in your face, in your chest, overly wide and tall making for horrible arm pump. Everyone that rides one with slightly lower bars says it's the best money they ever spent.

In the same boat as you. Most say go with the better dealer. I have a poo dealer 20 mins away, but they won't budge off msrp on a snowcheck. Sure if they don't want my business now they won't care come time for service. The closest doo dealer is across the border about 1.5hrs away. The best service in the area is the cat dealer, but something bugs me about the new one that I can't pin down (might be Cats promotional video saying it is perfection) I ride a 2010 m8 162 and it has been a great sled, just getting to high in mileage. Hard decision to make for sure. Oh and polaris in Canada only comes with a 2 year warranty.

Love It

I just bought a 14 Pro. I absolutely love it! I road the doo as well but, I loved the feel of the Poo. It is my first year as a snowmobiler and I came off of an early 90's Poo. The pro is the "cheater" sled. It allows you to do things you wouldn't have considered before. I had to buy one to keep up with the group that I ride with.

How's the 14 engine holding up. Seem like were not hearing as many issues with it. Talked to a few guys while I was riding and a few told me go with the doo we always see the poos getting towed out. But the guy I rented it from has 10 new one each year and he said he's only had one engine go in the last 2 years.

So you need to decide..that way you can only thank yourself at the end of the day over a frosty beverage.

Just a matter of playing the game of life: you throws your money and you takes your chances. A good dealer of either brand is a good place to start. 550iq

I think the engine issues are blown way out of proportion. In 2012 they had some issues with the nicasil or pistons that caused scuffing at a couple thousand miles, I believe that has been addressed. I've personally towed out two locked up E-Techs and know of a third that went down out of about six guys I know that ride them, all under 1,000 miles. If you're concerned about Pro reliability don't be, (the pistons seem to be holding up well, the cranks have been solid (4,300 mountain climbing miles on my '12 and still going strong), and the electronics and electrical seem to be bullet proof. I don't know of anybody out of about 20 different people I ride with that have ever even replaced a stator.

Maybe I should get one of each... Lol

That's what I'm doing haha. If your into more technical tree riding steep hills id say go with the pro. The xM just doesn't handle like the pro does. If your into hillclimbing and boondocking here and there nothing crazy get the xM. At least for me I couldn't get the xM to hold a steep sidehill as well as the pro. I kept fighting the xM to not have the track wash out. The etec motor is awesome but the 14 pros have been running good and I bet the 15's are even better. Only reason I ordered an xM was because the fiancé likes that sled a lot better it's easier for her to initiate a sidehill and she doesn't do anything crazy so it's perfect for her. Who knows maybe next season with more time on it I'll enjoy the xM even more but for now I'm sticking with the pro

This ^^^^^^

Towed out two xm etecs this weekend that lost compression.

Fwiw, whats popular is not always right and whats right isnt always popular. Lotta chatter about lower bars... I bought a new pro last Monday. Been riding everyday since in the mountains. I put on a 2 inch Rox riser and its perfect, dont see any need for "different" bars. Im 6'7" tho. Waaay easier on my back with higher bars, an I can huck that thing like Roger Clemens.

Lol I wish I could. But I'm keeping my boosted nytro for hill climbing. That thing rocks :)

800's

I can't speak for the doo, but we have had two 2011 Pro's with zero problems other than one ETS going bad.
Our 2013 which has had the crap beat out of it has around 2000 miles, and has not had any problems other than the self inflicted kind. :face-icon-small-sho
Our 2014 has had zero problems of any kind, but that's the one I ride, and, I am, well, not a beat the crap out of anything type guy anymore. (yes that does suck):face-icon-small-hap
It sucks to get old, beat up, and worn out. But I love my Pro. $.02

Thx. That's good to hear some positive feedback. It seems that most of the time we hear only the **** that breaks down. Makes me feel more confident knowing some have zero issues

I have both an XM and 14 assault. Assault wins in almost all categories except power. I see it this way.... polaris engine goes down it gets replaced under warranty and that is the weak part of the Polaris. The weak part of the Doo is the s and e module bend that and start wrenching and believe me you will bend it. My 13 is ready for s and e modules this summer. If Doo came out with an all new chassis for 15 I would sell everything and get one but realistically the Doo is the same mechanical chassis since 2008.

My '11 pro went down this weekend. Rode a '13 xm one day and a big bore '12 cat the next 2 days. I will stick with my polaris thanks. The polaris engine keeps getting better every year.
