In the most general terms possible -
Conservatives prefer things the way they are or "used to be."
Liberals prefer to change things from what they used to be.
The founders of the country were all Liberals in their day. King George was a conservative. Benedict Arnold was a conservative.
Lincoln was a liberal. Robert E. Lee was a conservative.
The 20th & 21st centuries have had so many issues that I doubt anyone can be completely pigeonholed into one or the other.
If you substitute the word "liberal" with "socialist," then I think your meme would make sense. The 2 are most definitely not synonymous.

This is really what makes the 2 party system and liberal vs. conservative battle an absolute joke. There are so many debatable topics that we now all have access to information on and somehow we as a society like to dumb it down to us vs them.
By joining up with one of the factions or putting down someone from the other, however it may be. You are doing nothing more then diluting your own opinion. You are watering down your own opinions/beliefs by being part of the average of the group.
This mindless game of us vs them has allowed VERY impossible policies to be pushed from both sides of the isle and absolute trash for politicians to rise to power.
Its not the "liberals" or the "conservatives" who are tearing america apart. Its every single person who can only see it as those 2 sides. America is 325 Million unique individuals with massive cultural differences. When you try to put them into 2 groups, not surprisingly this creates a lot of undue tension.

In fact it isn't us vs them. Every single election is a piece of the puzzle we all build together.

Marijuana is already banned under federal law. If all you care about is gay marriage and smoking marijuana then you are not conservative.
I don't want to pay for someone's abortion. If you expect everyone else to pay for your stuff such as free college, abortions. Etc. You are not a conservative. Kind of like sandra fluck wanting everyone to pay for her birth control under the health care. Only thing that was worse was Congress listening to her spill for a day.

Marijuana would have been legal loooong ago if it weren’t for self righteous conservatives forcing their beliefs on others and not letting people consume a freakin plant if they decide to.
Personally I wouldn’t want to pay for someone’s abortion either, if they make that choice they have to live with it (which I couldn’t even imagine having to do) and they should pay for it, but you shouldn’t tell them whether or not they can make that choice.
If 2 dudes want to get married conservatives want to stop them because it hurts their tender little feelings
When generalizing two groups such as this you can always find hypocrisy. So yea, everyone’s sh!t stinks, and if you are too arrogant to admit that then yours is likely particularly bad.

The 2 dudes thing is wrong, period. If everyone was gay the world would be extinct. That right there proves it. You can't argue with that. I don't care if they do it but we don't have to put them on a pedestal or make any big concessions for them. Just shut up about it. They want everyone else to do it to justify, in some way, it's ok.
As far as farmer welfare, there is a bunch that I wouldn't do. My wife works for the nrcs and if I was doing things, a bunch wouldn't have a job.
Any drug should be legal by your marijuana theory. Legalize them all.
If you don't believe in God that is your choice. I'm not here to try and make you but it does sound like you frown on people that do. Religion has started more wars than anything but it is , if nothing else, a good moral base that is really needed at the moment. You need to fill kids minds with something or somebody else will. Rather see that then some lazy pot smoker filling their mind with their ideas.
As far as right vs. Left. It is more than that. Like country vs city. It is how you live your life. How you act and think. What you do with your life. Completely opposite people. Kind of like a subdivision moving in on your ranch. All of a sudden they start passing all this stuff, and you don't know it because your just trying to make a living and raise a family. Before long they are trying to run you out and you were there first. Same with the bunny huggers vs snowmobiles. They don't care . They just want you out. Complete polar opposites. I can listen to anyone for a bit but probably won't change my mind. It is the left that won't listen. Your just an idiot if you don't do it their way. It is not about joining some faction. It is a way of life and sticking up for what you believe in. Everyone has their beliefs but I don't have to buy into it.

I say live and let live, more people should mind their own damn business instead of trying to save us from ourselves. I think our country could use a LOT more natural selection. Just like in the animal kingdom, too stupid to live takes care of itself most of the time.
I think Mafesto's post makes a great point although conservatives are not always right by a long shot. Who cares if you want to do drugs? We promote drinking alcohol in this country like it is OK. That is by far one of the worst drugs ever allowed to be legal. If you can buy booze legally, why not other drugs? If that is your choice and you live with whatever consequences it has, then have at it, not my business.
I think conservatives are wrong about abortion too. Complaining about paying for it is stupid as well. It is a LOT cheaper to abort than for society to pay to raise an unwanted child, so spare me that argument. At the end of the day government subsidizes WAY too many things. The government needs to be reduced in power by 50-75%. We have way too many cops and way too many stupid a$$ laws that do not help anybody.
I probably fall into a libertarian mindset most of all. The other two parties are so corrupt we have about given away most of our freedoms as well as too much of our paychecks.
Even with the conservatives flawed viewpoints on some issues, I think in general they have a more live and let live attitude than the cradle to grave democrats. They really don't have much to support and ton of things I completely oppose. It is the lesser of two evils at this point, which sucks...

Maybe because the Roman Catholic church is the worlds biggest cult... How much of that "tradition" is in direct opposition to the words in the book? They are almost as wacked as the Mormons...
You’re so entrenched in your us vs them ways that you cannot see that it’s both the right and left that won’t listen. For every example of intolerance from the left there is one from the right. For every “Christian “ that wants to push legislation to tell people that they can’t marry who they love there is some vegan who wants to outlaw eating meat.
Take off the partisan blinders and look at it in black and white. The US is fractured, it’s easy to see that both sides hate of each other has clouded their vision. Take healthcare for example-the right says “I don’t want to pay for other people’s healthcare, let’s go back to how it was before Obamacare ” when in actuality due to the number of uninsured in the US you actually pay more for other people’s healthcare under that system (you end up paying for all the uninsured going to the ER thru massive premiums and huge costs) then in one like most of the rest of the developed world where everyone contributes. Supporting universal healthcare for example doesn’t make one a bleeding heart liberal, it makes one practical based on the data available from nearly every other country in the world. Too bad there is such a divide that even if the best plan ever is proposed one side will sh!t on it just because the other side came up with it-I don’t see any interest in bipartisan solutions these days, and that’s tragic.
I am calling BS on the universal healthcare issue. My direct costs for healthcare quadrupled under Obamacare and NONE of my other taxes went down. This is the case for every person I know that pays for their health insurance. I know lots of self employed people that have no more coverage under this plan than they did under the old. They still pay cash when they have a health issue. From my perspective it is a complete failure.

To play the devil's advocate, perhaps we could do fine with less police if we policed ourselves the way we used to.
Protect our own neighborhoods by whatever means necessary.

Obamacare is anything but universal healthcare. That you equate it with the systems in the rest of the world just reinforces the rest of my point. It’s still a for profit system and there are still piles of uninsured that “pay cash” (great until they get cancer)... look up the average per capita healthcare costs in the US vs the rest of the developed world.

I’ve lived in both Canada and the US and experienced both systems first hand pretty easy to tell what works and to understand the massive difference between Obamacare and universal healthcare. Yea, Obamacare has essentially failed. Could it have succeeded if not for the completely partisan attacks from day 1 including Donny’s efforts to undermine it? Who knows. What if all that effort had gone into working together to make a system that works?
But we all know that even if the best system ever is proposed down there it’ll be fought against tooth and nail by the opposition (whoever that may be at the time) for political reasons and the public will go on following whatever side they are linked to without ever looking at the big picture in an unbiased manner.
