Connecticut School Shooting...What is wrong with people!

I don't know much about the differences between hunting rifles and what you would want for urban defence, but that rifle looks like a one shot wonder. Or do they take clips of three? How effective do you guys think this would be?

Update: Looks like clips of 8? Sounds family from my Call of Duty game play.. lol

Another update: I want to get an M14 rifle!!!

Another update 2: Frack 2- 3k!!! That was short lived...

I thought the grenades went in the purse?

Yeah, an M1 had small clips by today's standards. I think 6 or 8 is the correct number.

How effective? It's only as effective as the shooter makes it. It's called good gun control.

'twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"this is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.

God Bless their beautiful souls.
Sam

I guess my thoughts are that it might not be effective in comparison to being in a firefight with some that has a much higher capacity weapon, or multiple weapons. I guess the argument would go, if all the teachers had them...

M1 Carbine uses a 15 round clip It shoots a 7.62 x 33 cartridge, I would say in lawman terms think of a 357 magnum cartridge.

M1 Garand uses an 8 round striper clip shoots an 7.62 x 63 or the common redneck knows it as an thirty-aught-six

Your not a gun guy I take it. I would not want to be on the recieving end of 30-06 or a 30 carbine, one shot would be plenty.

it only takes one shot.............30-06 makes the AR 15's .223 look like a pellet gun.

Only takes one shot with a 223 also. As much as I don't want to defend Ruffy, but I think his point was a semi auto will shoot 15 rounds for every 1 round a bolt action rifle will do. You get 15 rounds coming at you and I want to see you take that 1 round kill shot.

Thank you snowest for keeping this thread open for the basic members to read. It has been nice to be able to continue to read everyones posts on this sad tragedy.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

Thanks again Wyopdrsqrl.

sswim, very powerful words there. Had to quit reading it here at work.:brokenheart:

One question?
Who's "mom" has a AR, 2 - 9's and that bad@ss assault shotgun(don't even know what it is) at home, especially where they can be accessed by anyone including a messed up kid?
Ok another, any why no real mention of the dad?
Something doesn't add up. (When does it ever in these types of situations?)
Alright 3 questions, what happened to just eating a bullet or jumping off a bridge if you were done with life?

i know one shot will kill with a 223, my statement was more for the people that act like assault weapons have some sort of special "killing" power and make it easier to kill simply because they're called assault weapons. just stating that the ar is actually a small caliber when it comes to the world of rifles. i get what your saying about semi auto vs bolt action but either way if someone wanted to do something like this they could still cause just as much destruction without assault rifles. I'm just sayin a semi auto ain't no more deadly than a bolt action, they both require someone to pull the trigger.

If anyone hasn't read Thomas Sowell's syndicated column this week, you should.
