Confused? Whats happening to the 8's???

mine is one that runs great. I am in Mccall for a week and I put over 90 miles on my sled the first day some back country and then decided to run the the bar in warren. I have been pounding on this thing for the last 3 days and I have had no issues at all. every issue I have had is either now. get the latest ecm reflash it runs hard. I ran this thing at 50-70 mph for over 20 miles.

Racer... Is your sled a race program sled or a consumer sled with an actual VIN # and title on it??

voltage regulator
stator
they both ended a trip

one of the exhaust valve bolts broke off in the motor. Ended a ride that was a long was from home.

the sled has never held rpms and the primary just broke. not warrantied
ended a trip

the other exhaust valve those bolts broke. ended a trip that was nine hours one way drive.

I just took my motor out on another trip. My guess it won't be covered under any warranty.
09 dragon 1500 miles on it.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm just a guy that has been riding sleds (my passion) for a lot of years. I don't think a Polaris rep would have purchased a 2007 Doo and would be registered on DooTalk. If you want to see some real sled issues take a look at posts on DooTalk in 2007 under the Rev threads. I put more miles on my wifes sled than I got on my Doo.
What I said above is true, there don't seem to be many issues in this area. Those with problems are normally pretty vocal. I thought everyone was entitled to an opinion-if it doesn't agree with yours so what, why does that offend you?
The fact is Polaris had a problem and spent millions on a recall. Polaris is not the devil, just a large company with some good people and others not so good. I did read the start of this thread and it started out with the question "what's wrong with the 8's". You really didn't respond to the question so we don't know your issues. The sad thing is that the IQ is a great sled but not for those with serious problems.

Well your right. whats wrong is a long answer.... update killed power...lean reflashes....siezed pistons...crank failures...
anything Imissed??
friend has 08 D8 snow check same as mine...piston scuffing...update....and no problems.
we bolth have sleds with tunnel not properly jiged so lean to left. many others have same problem. but never mind that.
lots of VR and cooked ECM's but nevermind those.
not sure why some got good ones and some got bad.
But one thing is for sure (and undisputed) Polaris doesn't want to warranty them. so go ahead and buy new next sled ..but dont come back here in a year to cry about how much of a pos it is..... just ask any 900 owner how they love their sleds and how little they're worth to try to sell!!!

just my 0.02

I have a 09 d8, pto side piston went last yr @ 1400 miles ran good till than with the odd stumble. Got it fixed put 300 miles and ran the same. Got the recall done and all flashes done all up to date, and nothing but bogging issues this year. Boggs so bad can't even ride it. Dealer has looked at countless times said there is no fix. They want me to put a fuel controller in and if it doesn't work they wont charge me. Does it matter which one i choose i was thinking boondocker but they said pcIII or pcv. While this fix it.

FYI, cranks are a problem on ALLLLL 2 stroke power plants that put out 150 hp.

Also, maintenance goes a long way. From what i can gather, your best bets to making the D8 run good are PC-5 map, new head design, STOCK PIPE, slp or HPS can, and clutching. Leave everything else alone.

As far as idling, i have been talking to several guys in the know, and all we can gather is that polaris' new update doesn't idle. simple as that. We are working on a fix but it isn't easy.

The 2nd 2011 map fixed the lean condition at idle, and cleaned up some other area's...according to Carl's Cycle.

I have the newest map on my sled and it doesn't idle worth a ****.

I will check my TPS. There is also a fuel screw in the airbox but i am told it is best not to mess with it, as it is finicky as all get out.

09 D8 163 with 1500+ miles (right around 100 hours??) on it...2010 Updates and has never ran better....Doesn't idle....at all, but hey, who cares, turns out it's not very fun to ride when it's idiling anyways!

When you check your TPS, it needs to be calibrated to the stock map first. then once that is done you need to calibrate it on your PCV. You do this at both idle and WOT... if your TPS is wrong with your stock map and you recalibrate only on the PCV it will still be wrong. just FYI. I had that 1/14 map with my PCV but I went back back original 2010 mapping because that is what the PCV map i have was tuned against. I never had any idle issues tho, i just had trouble getting top end RPM with the 1/14 map.

Also, does anyone know if SLP primary clutch spring colors coincide with Polaris spring colors?

No SLP & Team use different colors and the rates aren't measured at the same length-clicky http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206231
