Thinking of winter and looking to for a nice cabin to rent that we can ride out of . . .open to different areas! Want a nice cabin that can house 4-6 and a hot tub would be a huge plus!

Nice one Joe, didn't know that was there.^^^

Hot tubs are nice for a couple days, especially when not fighting over it at a hotel/motel. But riding comes first, and the amount of time a group will spend in a tub isn't really that much.

Colorado for whatever reason just doesn't have too many places that are ride in/out from lodging. Grand Lake and Grand Mesa would top the list for that, then you got to do your homework and find the handful of others places that you could ride from lodging. Most will be down on a trailhead, and not up in the goods like Joe posted.

Would have to trailer everyday, but Buena Vista has houses you can rent that literally have their own private hot springs.

Anyways, pick some areas and do your homework.

Riding from the cabin

Thunder Mountain Lodge has nice cabins at 10,000ft and average over 400 inches of snow. Hundreds of miles of groomed trails with thousands of acres of land in between for off trail riding. Every cabin has a full kitchen and we have 91 octane non ethanol gas. Grand Mesa area is sweet. Thanks 970.856.6240

How sweet was the riding on Grand Mesa last season....ummm not so great and nowhere near 400 inches of snow.

Insisting on riding from a cabin , IMO, is the single biggest mistake people make when coming to ride Colorado. You will be sure to miss the best stuff that way. Pick an area, get a hotel, trailer to the goods each day. This will get you better riding without a doubt.

Thank you once again Powder for your excellent, insightful post. You continue to impress. Maybe invite him down to ride Owl Creek Pass with you, the best rider in the west, who rides the most extreme, deepest powder ever to be seen!

Ride in ride out..

Clark Co/Hahns Peak area.North of Steamboat Springs.Similar to Rabbit Ears snow but way less people.I have friends who live in Clark and have stayed at their home.Rental motel is called Glen Eden now I believe, gas, food, lodging. No night life, just you and your friends.
Grand Lake ride in ride out from your motel.Great grooming, ride with the wife there alot. She's more a groomed trail rider but there is good off trail riding, just look around.
You could stay in Kremmling, less than an hour to Rabbit Ears,Vail Pass or Grand Lake. Also not much in the way of night life. There's a couple bars but if you want to party not a top option.
If you want to party choose Summit County,Steamboat or Vail Valley. But have higher rental rates and check on trailer parking. These are places close to me.

Lots of other great places to ride in Colorado, just depends on your priorities. Wolf Creek area,Grand Mesa,Cottonwood Pass/Monarch area.If you have any skiers in your group it also throws in different options.

Steamboat,Grand Lake/Hot Sulfur Springs,Buena Vista/Cottonwood and Wolf Creek/Poncha Springs all have hot springs close.

I live in No/central Colorado high country so these are where I mostly ride.

Your jealousy is really coming out...

NOWHERE on this site can you find where I claim to be any better rider than the next guy and I can't help it you prefer riding big flat areas with tons of people to deserted mountain areas.

I think the Mesa is great, you should ALL ride it, ALL of the time, and tell EVERYBODY how awesome it is.

Are there any good options to fly in and rent?

Few places you could get a halfway decent 600 like Novaguides on Vail Pass, or whoever in Grand lake.

Getting an 800 long track will take lots and lots of homework, and most likely require you to rent a SUV that has a hitch to pull a trailer.

Outfit in Denver rents trailered 800 153's. Member on this site also rents good sleds, but never remember who they are.

May be good sleds somewhere out at Grand Mesa, but for the most part CO has a few places with 600's and then cater to the trailsled folks.

Wild Skies is worth looking into if you have a larger group. Stayed there last January. Probably not the best snow or terrain in Colorado, but we definitely managed to find some fun stuff, basically rode untracked snow the entire time and saw very few sleds. Cabin was extremely nice, as were the owners. Oh, and its near Craig, bout an hour and a half drive south and east I believe, the riding is in the flat tops.
