Colorado Bans OHV's

The way the bill is described in most of the thread is how it started out. It was introduced by Gunnison's own Kathleen Curry. The purpose propaganda was that the bill was needed to allow Colorado law enforcement to write tickets for road/boundary violations. However, and no matter what COHVCo may have claimed, the bill was clearly written as a closed unless posted open law.
I lobbied; I think The Blue Ribbon Coalition weighed in, too, expressing its concern about COHVCO's unthinking sellout. The final language, though not as simple and direct as it could have been, came out better than the State deciding to rely on the often non-existent USFS and BLM on the ground or published road classification. The final bill reads, in relevant part:
IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR A PERSON TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE ON ANY FEDERAL PUBLIC LAND, TRAIL, OR ROAD UNLESS THE FEDERAL PUBLIC LAND, TRAIL, OR ROAD IS SIGNED OR OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED FOR SUCH USE.

That was the closed unless posted open part. The change, which makes the law more nearly match federal law, was the added language:

ENFORCEMENT OF THIS SECTION WITHIN AN ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT OF FEDERAL PUBLIC LAND SHALL NOT COMMENCE UNTIL THE CONTROLLING LAND MANAGEMENT AGENCY IDENTIFIES WHETHER A ROUTE IS AVAILABLE FOR MOTORIZED TRAVEL BY MAPS, ROUTE MARKERS, OR SIGNS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AND PROVIDE INFORMATION TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE ROUTE IS AUTHORIZED.

Both are women now, have been for a couple of years;) I think the fact that they are female has helped us some because they work well with the predominantly female forest staff in my area.

I agree, I think this was an absolutely stupid bill to support, I did not support the idea at all. I agree with Steamboat, just another nail in the coffin, and I am at a loss as to how this helps any snowmobilers, even the trail riders.

Oh that's right VP, I forgot Roger isn't VP now. He also didn't run for President of the club this year.

It certainly won't help with the unity of OHV and snowmobiles.
