Clutching the 2013 Pro

I'd love to hear some reviews of people making clutching changes, and/or selling kits for the 13.

Is there any gains to be had? The stock clutching isn't bad, but i'm hoping there is research being done and products coming to market that will improve performance. Always have had good luck running a clutch kit from someone else who did all the leg work, so i'm happy to hand over some benji's for a top performing product. Hoping someone is or will be providing an updated kit for the 2013s.

I've made a few minor setup changes on mine so far, and i'm happy - but not satisfied. Please post up your setups and kits! Took out some offset, tightened the deflection a bit, and added a bit more float. Belt's looking good!

41mph is OK in the deep in POW, but i'd like too see more without sacrificing anywhere else.

Don't have a 13, but have a 11 and 12. Have tried, bellybusters, MDS and SLP MTX, and stock. I leave one sled same change other/compare. My best is blue/pink slp spring 68g mtx with loading wieght in lower hole for 5-8,000ft.
Have a tied secondary, have never got it to work any better than 04. With 04 I run more initial helex/less finish and blk/purple spring.
Lot stronger bottom/mid pull for me. 1000 miles with orginal belt with that set-up.

good info, thanks!

any increases in climbing track speed?

So, are you running a progressive helix or a multiangle (3 angles)?

Steve at MDS told me his recommended setup for his pro is stock secondary with his weights and spring in primary, I was gonna put the carls clutching in the secondary he told me bunch of customers have tested both ways and said stock secondary works better with his weights, will be riding end of next week in tog so ill find out how this setup works on a 13 pro.

MDS primary and spring, bone stock secondary

I'm running Steve's ( MDS) clutching seems good, but I haven't rode it much since changing to MDS.

so...are you running the blk/purple spring in secondary? and if so, could you tell difference between the two? dealer said to try it...

The blk/purple isn't much different than the stock, its about same on bottom little stiffer on top. Yes, I use it in one sled not in other.

After extensive testing, I believe I found a tremendous set-up. MDS weights, SLP Blue/Pink, Carl's Helix in the 60/40 angle, 2 derlins, Black/White spring. At your altitude you may be able to run the 62 angle in the helix. If you are not backshifting properly, then go back to the 60.

If you ride above 8000ft, add the SLP high altitude shim.

Trust me on this and your will NOT be dissapointed. Most importantly, get Carl's helix and get the MDS weights. Some people may argue about my spring selection but all I know is my sled is wicked responsive and pulls like a motha and holds r's.

Cheers...

Black/White spring. Who's spring have a part #?????????

800xtreme
do you mind telling us a little more about you sled and setup
like bults/washers in you mds wieghts and you elevation
thanks
i've been playing with my mds and carls helix but can't get it to back shift
on long steep pulls i'm running the black/purple maybe i need to try the blk/white ? i ride 5000-8000

Yes throw that blk purple out... put in the blk white and dont look back. your weights are gonna vary on snow conditon and type of snow. Sounds like we run same sort of elevation, are you running a head.pipe etc? This set up works real good on the 13 pro..
cheers!

After some more testing, it seems that the Carl's Helix and BB's are a better combo when it comes to backshifting. The stock helix and the MDS weights are a great combo as well. It appears the MDS weights and Carl's helix is not quite as good as the other two combo's mentioned above.

If I had a stock set-up but wanted to change one thing, I would throw the MDS weights in and you would be very happy. You may still do some fine tuning with your springs but keep your stock helix.

Hope this helps...

I've got EPI 70g weights in and everything else is stock. The sled works very well, but I have a TIED clutch that I'd like to use, but no idea what to set it up with for a stock '13 163

On my pro 163" I'm using Mds weights with black/green spring stock secondary.

At 5 -8 k ft I have them loaded to 69.2 g and I was still over revving some. I'm gonna try adding a washer next time out for a total of 70 g.
The 13 pro requires more weight then the 12 pro. I'm having to add up to 5 grams more then Steve recommends at 2000ft.

3.5 g more at 5-8 k ft

Circling back on this topic. Still getting too much heat in the second IMO; primary is cooler than secondary. I think i needs to make a change. I floated the secondary to .100" of float, removed a washer behind the secondary for a little less offset, and that seems to have helped (picked up a few MPH of track speed while climbing) but heat still here. Backshift is good, can hit 80mph on the trail (who cares, but it shows nothing is stopping full shiftout). RPMs are little low at elevation (8000rpm's) at 6000ft.

Going to give the MDS's a try i think and see where to go from there.

To me, above anything else it seems this sleds needs to be geared down just a touch - but that's not even an option which is a pity. Best stock clutching i've ever had - just not perfect. It starts out in too high of a gear IMO. Who needs to 80mph with a 163"?
