Clutch Tower Braces

Now that these clutch tower braces have been out for awhile, i was hoping to get opinions from people who own them. Do they make a noticable difference as far as power to the groud? Improved belt life? lower belt temps? Other?

Thanks

I have one from Turbo Al and was out last week with a infa red heat gun checking out the temps on the sheaves.

Riding with my brother on 09 xp154x identical sled without any bracing doing climbs and then checking primary and secondary sheaves. Temperature was 20-40degrees farenheit cooler on braced sled, and both sled primary clutches were over 200 degrees. The day was in the lower 40's, the snow was wet and heavy.
My conclusion is bracing helps, but it does not replace the heat being created from stock clutch setup which is another issue. Next steps: shock well venting, RB clutch kit. There was no noticable difference in track speed. (My brother had a new belt on and was pulling 46mph so he said. I was only getting 39. Both on clicker 4)

thanks for the info. my clutching is definitely stock but seems to run really well for a stock setup, clutch side is vented. As you said, stock clutching runs really hot.

anyone else out there with a CT brace? read alot about what they're supposed to do from the manufacturers, like to hear from more owners on how well they work.

brace

have one of the original protos on a 2008 860 summit...I have one on mine...proper clutch alignment and no jack shaft tower flex makes for happy clutches...BJ

I have one on one of my machines. Absolutely no problems and glad I did it. Need to get one for the other.....

Talked to Brett from Specialty Sled the other day. He was saying how you can actually see the flex in the secondary tower brace when you have the sled on the hoist while working the clutches and brake or in some way simulating actual operation. Swears by the braces. I should have some out soon built with Ti. Prices should be under what the rest i have seen are. Definately not over. I'll keep everyone up to speed on progress.

For me the main question is:

How much power are you going to be putting down when the secondary tower has Ripped the bolts out of the bulkhead and the primary and secondary are GRINDING into each other at 8,000 RPM and the jacksahft is running at cocked angles in its bearings at both ends ?

That is what happens and pictures have been posted over on DOOTalk for the past two years. Even the lowly little TNT's have done it.

My 08 TNT arrived in Aug 07 and as soon as I started tearing it apart to turn it into a 360 lb mod longtrack and pulled the secondary off I knew I had to design a brace for it just by looking at it. Lot of other people saw it too, Big John offered one of the first braces by Dec 07 or Jan 08. Very easy to make if you have the knack and a lathe. They do seem a little spendy for as simple as they are BUT they take a good 2 or 3 hours to make one and it takes machine shop equipment which isn't cheap. Minumum $50 an hour for any lathe or brideport mill type of equipment for cost factor for a product.

Good Luck,

If you don't put some sort of brace on it you may eventually need it!!

Definitely don't want to start a manufacturer war, but i've seen other threads discussing clearances issues with the secondary and some of the braces. Do all the mfr's have this issue figured out?

The ones that I have read of having a clearance issue I think are the flat plate type that run down alongside the PTO cylinder to the left front motor mount area. I think they have it out now but this is what was going on. The clearance problem happens if you are geared low enough and clutched so you can go into full overdrive the inside sec sheeve would hit. I don't think the bars that run horizontally to the left front shock tower are going to have that issue. This is the type I built and from the get go impossible for the sec to hit it.

For that matter if you can get full overdrive and have replaced the four button head bolts for the helix with hex head, they hit the clutch tower. If you have hex head and they don't hit, you likely don't have full shift capabillity.

Good Luck

sounds like the brace that spans between the left front shock and the clutch tower is the way to go. those seem to be a little more spendy, but probably well worth it.

Spent most of the day on the phone going over do's and donts on this Tower brace. Went from the shock tower bolt. This Titanium brace will weigh barely over a half a pound, and looks sharp. I will post some pics (installed) on Wednesday when the aluminum rod ends show up. Will also post on the web site. Price will be $175.00 and will include all hardware. www.alternativeimpact.com

I believe the 600 mxz rs uses a brace that goes from the shoch tower straight to the front motor mount

I am not sure if it will fit on the 800 but mabey it could be massaged to fit ?

Sorry guys, everything was a day late. Built the first dozen today. Will have pics and a weight tomorrow. Was able to knock the price down to $140.00. Everything came together better than i had anticipated. great looking set-up, and easy to instal.

I have the one from Specialty Sled but no where as nice as that. So Dan count me in it looks as good as your other stuff and 25 HP gain! WOW! I run the Specialty brace and have zero belt heat issues with my 174 X 3" on 91/45 gear. So yes I will take one for sure! Is that one inch tube? .051 or .065 wall?

great

looks great but does it keep the motor from twisting itself? seems like the first time i pinch mine it twists. cant keep it straight?

Its actually .875 x .045. Looks big in the pic. Probably need a brace from the motor for the twisting issue. Havent heard that one. Any bracing is going to help.
