Clutch NIGHTMARE!!!!!!

K, I run the Supreme Spider and it works awesome. (4 weight primary!!)

I sent my clutch to Supreme and had them install the whole shooting match and I recall it was around $50.00 for the labor. 1600 miles+ and still in great shape.

My Cat Clutch Experience this year. 1500 miles.

3 Secondaries Destroyed: Screws broke off breaking helix and scratchin the sheaves beyond repair. two helixs cracked and broke apart. 2 fixed under warranty, the last one was denied.
2 primary clutches destroyed: warranty denied both times. Rollers went out first time taking weights with them. I rebuilt the rollers on the primary only to have the spider crack and blow apart.

Now I am trying to find a new primary clutch for under $300.

If this happens on my 011 Cat it will be for sale the next day. POS clutches. Cat needs to get this chit figured out...

i feel your pain....the current cat pri and sec are a PITA, ive got several bad clutch parts in the shop.......learned alot the last two years

what bugs me the most:
- tiny set screws in pri weights are a PITA
- tiny heliz screws in the pri are silly
- having a consumable roller in the primary go bad makes the complete clutch bad?......lame

Quality control has gone to the dogs and this is their way to avoid more part#'s and selling more of one part#. Add to that, they know there's an issue when rebuilding the current clutch and by going this route they not only simplify their procedures but save money doing it by continuing to use cheap materials in some of the worst places. Economics kills the end consumer anyway you slice it.

Anyone try balancing the stock clutch from new or after "first service"? Or even take yours apart to weigh what everything comes in at when tuning?

I have a Comet 4-Pro that blew twice on the original owner with his 809 triple. Under 1000km's.
He gave it to me, I got everything needed, balanced everything I could in the simplest method(.01 gram scale) Took 1700km's before the rollers and bushings were showing any wear. I replaced because of tolerances after 3000km.
Clutch just passed over 8000km's and I believe since I just had the spyder apart recently, that could have contributed to why the moving sheave split down one side. Perfectly straight line from the shaft to the outer part of the sheave. Never seen that done before. Thank goodness for spare parts one acquires over the years.

Does anyone know where I can get ahold of the guys that owned Hi-Tech Performance. I got the E.R. kit on my secondary and wouldn't mind knowing if parts are available for both clutches.
