Clutch NIGHTMARE!!!!!!

I'm the third guy in our group to have the rollers in the Drive Clutch go junk, NO Warranty, NO Recall. Artic cat won't sell rollers! They make you buy the entire drive clutch, about 500$ retail. What a bunch of CRAP!!!!! :face-icon-small-fro Any one know where I might find a cheaper one? Also heard that rollers from an 05 M8 would work. ANY HELP PLEASE.

It is to bad cat has done this they have a very good drive clutch and to not make rebuild kit for them is a shame. It looks like cat has also stop-ed selling the rollers for the earlier m7 clutch too. Cant fined them in the parts book now, If any one has a part number for them post them please.

I just had my M8 primary replaced under warranty for the same issue. Dealership would not let me keep the original to have it rebuilt. Supposedly a "liability" issue. They must really like selling 500 dollar clutches when a simple roller goes bad. What a joke.

Warranty?

You're the first person I have ever heard of getting a clutch covered under warranty. You should feel lucky.

I would say the reason that they kept your clutch is not due to liability, but due to the fact that it CAN'T be rebuilt. When a primary loses a roller it's time to donate $500 to AC! Bad Deal!

Where are all the after market entrepeneurs?

What? Not possible to buy new spider??

You're right...

Yes, you can go out and spend $200 on a spider but then the high torque of getting the old one off and a new one on ends up cracking a sheave.

Better off just buying the clutch as it stands right now.

I'd like to see or hear more as to why you say this.

The spider is rebuildable, just keep an eye on it and catch it before the weight eats your spider. The part numbers have been posted on this website at least once. I've never heard of anyone cracking a sheave taking the spider off. Implying that the risk is great every time you do this is just crazy talk. Any time you significantly change the weight profile you have to pull the spider to get your belt to sheave clearance set. I've taken the spider off my M1000 primary half a dozen times over the last couple years, never a single problem, you just have to use the right tools and the proper technique. (also posted on this website at least once)

There is also no reason to pay $500 for a new primary, call Troy at RV-Sports. I think I paid $275 for mine.

No replacement rollers for Cat primary, I am stunned !!!!!!!!
Just switched Brands this winter and the last time I had my primary off of my 2009 M1000 I did notice the rollers were getting a little loose. [ 550 miles ] Did not think any more of it until I read this post. I now have 750 miles on my sled and just thought I would buy rollers this fall and replace the worn ones .
I came over to the DARK SIDE from Polaris with rebuild kits to fix 2000 +++
mile clutches and not 750 miles like on my Cat.
Also had a 1M with lots of years of use and not problems with that sleds Primary.

Don`t know what more to say . I am speechless !!!!!!!!!!!

On my 1150 based off 900 bottom, I tried, or did, rebuild 3 primary's on 2 different clutches and the rollers were shot after 100 miles each time. These were on new spiders, correct procedure was applied.

I called Jeff at Dakota Performance and he said he tried the same thing with similiar results. He just replaced the primary every season, as part of preventitive maintenance.

Point is, I don't think rebuilding them is a good idea at all, at least from my experiences anyways.

The spider is rebuildable, like bgreen says.
Just had a friend rebuild his primary (08 M8), and I`m pretty sure he used the rollers from 2001 ZRT and Thundercat, part# 0746-067.
2001 is the last year the rollers(++) were sold separate from the spider.
To be sure, just check the roller width and diameter.

If not, buy the spider. Use a lot of heat on the nut, and with the right tools - it will come off easily.

Sure

And then, 100 miles later, out again.

I think Jeff at Dakota Performance probably knows what he is talking about...

I`m not questioning that Jeff knows what he is talking about, I`m just sharing my own experience, mentioning my friends 08 M8.
I also rebuilded my 03 F7 primary years ago, just replacing the rollers++ 1000 miles later, NO problems. My friends 08 M8, so far no problems.

If my rollers has to be replaced, I`M not going to buy a whole new clutch - based on MY experience.

Warranty

They recall the part so we have to send them in. I think that replacing is far better than rebuilding just my opinion I find that a rebuild IE a new spider seams to last about Half as long so why not just buy a new one.

New spider like 175.00
Labor 75
250 and I sell clutches all day for 350.00

So 99-01 spider parts fit to M spiders? This is REALLY great info!

Do they sell those fiber bearing parts separately? I need to get some and redo my clutch - again. I've also fixed my primary by my self with parts I've found. It would be really cool to put some new rollers and stuff in :)

Yep I used to rebuild my clutch every season and have plenty of rollers and spiders already rebuilt But for 350$ ,,,,that the way tio go, Your right the the rebuilds only go half the distance!!!

is anybody running the supreme spider & got a comparison on how that does?

I was going to get one, but Kevin got me a good enough deal on a whole new clutch that I just couldn't justify not getting it!

Btw, thanks for getting that to me so quick!!!
