Clockum

Cle Elum sledhead and I rode the Clockum yesterday and after riding this area for 15 years or so I've never seen it so good.
Certain areas were windblown and easy to stay on top...the areas protected by the hills and trees were absolute 3-4 feet of heaven. Think we saw less than 5 or 7 other riders all day. A little bit a heaven!

Glad to hear that--Great coverage!! Great boondocking area!!

After CG's report on liberty/blewitt area--I was a bit disappointed in the report.

I'd love to see some pics of that area. Anybody have some? I'd really like to see something around Clear and Lily lake before I make the drive over with te family.

Wish I had some good pics. Was planning to take some. Framus forgot his camera and I only got two pics off before my batteries went south. Might have a picture of Framus leaning over working on his sled. If I have anything worth posting, I will post when I get back home.

We came in from the Kittitas side and then up the canyon. I know we ended up at the airfield to get cell reception to contact another rider that never showed. I think the areas Framus mentioned we were riding were "The Fingers" and near "Crack in the a$$", if those names mean anything to you. We mainly just did a lot of boondocking through the trees on the south side where the pow was very deep. I basically just followed Framus wherever he decided he wanted to go.

Great fun indeed. Much, much better than my earlier in the week ride at Table Mountain.

The Teanaway and Manastash also had great pow this last week. Rode Manastash on Christmas Eve and it was probably up to two feet of fresh pow and we were the only two tracks every single place we played. Did not see another snowmobiler the entire day.

I rode out of Coleman this morning. I would have to disagree with the earlier reports. Snow was pretty skimpy over on the Kittitas Valley side of Colockum country. Most of the ridgetops have been wind scoured pretty bad. We're a ways from having coverage for the bowls above Coleman. Not much base yet.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good ride with great snow. It was great in areas where you KNOW that there aren't rocks and stumps. We just need a lot more snow, yet.

I just compared pictures from mid-January '06, and there's no comparison.

'06 - We could climb out the top through several of the chutes.

'08 - The upper bowls are nothing but rock.

Rode to 4 Corners, Mission Ridge towers, and down Springer? creek today. Good snow depth, some windblown drifts at top, lots of fog and snowing. Came from Lily Lake and they have okay snow depth where we unloaded but significantly more on top. Would say about 6" to 1' at Lily Lake to 4'+ on top but some areas have been wind blown. No dirt spots on trail and recently groomed. Probably could use more of a base but didn't hit dirt, only trenched. Overall, good riding conditions as long as you are on top.
