Clickers and RPM

Okay on my 02 800 I am busting 8000 at WOT. Where should it be and where should I set my clickers I am 5'10 225 Lbs. My clickers are set at 5

I _believe_ the 02 800 is supposed to go to 8k; my 03 700 tells you either in the owner's manual or on the little picture on the belt-guard which describes how to adjust the clickers.

Each increment "should" equal 200rpm. So, if you're at 5 now, put it on #4, and in theory, you'll peak at 7800rpm.

Mine were at 3, put lower gears and a longer track on, wound up going to 5. Seems like I got about 300 total rpm out of the change.

Don't take the nut OFF the bolt - on mine, it is within a half a turn of off, but there's enough room to push the bolt out and rotate it without taking the nut itself off. There are washers in there that can fall in if the bolt is removed - so I've been told, anyway. Did not want to find out.

10mm socket + 13mm open end wrench, easy deal - I did it in the parking lot after putting the new (lower) gears in. Seems to me that clickers are a BIT of a band-aid for correct clutching, but who knows. I only needed 2-400rpm, they did the trick for me.

All that said, 8k does not sound all that wrong. Maybe try moving them to position 4?

I believe 7850 is the rated rpm for an 02 800, back your clickers off 1 number and see what happens, it may not sound like much but these motors lose hp quickly once you exceed the rated rpm.

On the older sleds it's a good idea to replace BOTH clutch springs and make sure everything is in good condition.....things wear out. :beer;

Knowing most tachs read 100~150 high then can shoot for 8000 rpms on the tach.

All 800 twin up to 2004 @ 7850 rpms (tach read about 8000)
Ptec 2005~07 @ 7950 rpms. (tach read about 8100)
