cleaning/polishing tunnel

Im looking to clean up my tunnel. i removed the track length and saftey stickers and you can see where they were before. im not looking to waste alot of time polishing it until it looks like a mirror, just want it to be clean and maybe a little shiny. anyone have any tips or advice on how to clean it up? products? thanks alot

Go to schucks, checcker or Pepboys or maybe even wallyworld..get Mothers Alum. Polish (Red bottle) like Joe said, then get the Mothers polishing ball. I use the Mini..it has a shaft that you can hold. This will take the hours and take it to minutes. Any alum cleaner will work. I would stay away from Never dull and brasso...I tried them and never dull leaves fine scratches and brasso smells like the south end of a large steer and doesnt do that well either. I have tried Wizards and semi chrome..all good products but dont do any better than Mothers and will cost you a lot more. Save the good stuff for smaller jobs like Motorcycles.

You can take a handheld grinder to the front spindles then put a course sanding flapper disk on and bring it smoother and then can get the spindles to look like chrome.

I you want to get anal and have extra time ..you can get a real buffing wheel with a drill adapter and use polishing roughe(spelling??)

Personally I wouldnt spend a boatload of time on it..its Alum. and it just doesnt stay polished for long out in the elements. I just do it at the beggining of the season.

You wont go wrong with Mothers I would get a power ball also. Saves time
and wear and tear on the hands, have plenty of cloth. Mine looks great Im not sure for how long thou Have fun.

There is another thread that might help you in Deep powder...or fouled plug ...not sure which one called polishing tunnel.

I just did mine last night. Cleaned it with a concentrated aluminum cleaner. Sanded major scratches with 1000 and 2000 grit sand paper(dumb me scratched it scraping stickers). Then I cleaned it again, followed by a buffing with buffing compound to even out the finish from sanding. Then cleaned again. Then polished with Mothers polish. Didn't turn out great but it was about midnight when I was finishing up, so drive and effort were on the downturn. Looks a lot better then it did and better than any of the sleds I ride with, so that is all that matters. I am going to use a decent metal wax and wax it too. Try and keep it looking decent as long as possible.

I use those Mr. Eraser the you buy at walmart. just get them wet and buff. they do a good job of removing the black off the tunnel, but you will go though a lot, at least they are cheap. i found this method after buffing my tunnel 2 years ago by hand. just keep clean water on hand to rinse out Eraser. hope this helps....
