Chest Protector Recommendations

Had a little accident on the 18th and at the current rate of healing might be back on a sled at the end of January.

Not going out again without a chest protector - I know a lot of you already wear one but with all the other gear I wear I've been avoiding one.

So I'm looking for recommendations for the best fitting protector for a rider who already weighs 225 before he suits up in Klim with a avy pack, beacon, etc.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the help,
Chief

I have that. Chest, back, shoulders and elbows. easy to put on. I must say that it is really hard to get used to at first, everything but riding is really uncomfortable, simple things like putting your back pack on, or getting your camera from your pocket are kind of pain at first but you get used to how it lets you move.

There is a motorcycle shop down in Draper that has them on display so you can try them on and order one online from amazon and save a few bucks.

Even though what I said might turn you away, just remember moving while riding you will not notice, but other things you will notice it is on. You get used to it after awhile, which I am sure is true with any chest protector. It is really warm too, after the first ride you will make sure to shed a layer for the next one.

I can't believe that anybody would leave the parking lot without one.:face-icon-small-dis

The more body armor the better cuz anything can happen at any time. I wear a B-Wear Vest which is not made anymore and GP wears a Klim Tekvest. Both have been proven more than I can count.

Get well and protection, protection, protection.:face-icon-small-win

i wear a thor dirt bike chest protector. 80 bucks. works great. broke my chest wall cartilage on the bars. took 5 months to totally heel. sucked. wont ride without one now. hurt like a mother facker when i sneezed durring the heeling process.

Troy Lee Designs chest protector here.
How well do the eve protectors fit under coats and too the body, I am thinking better than a motocross chest protector. I also like the incorporation of the kidney belt. Feed back please.

That's what I've done; torn the cartilage, bruised my liver and diaphragm muscles. You're right, sneezing, coughing, even laughing, hurts like a mother.

The sled had bent handlebars, broken riser, bent steering post and a bent tie rod on one side..

One thing about the protector is wheither to wear is over or under the parka.. I dont' see many pictures on people with it over their coats. I couldn't get it under my Valdez outerlayer without buying a new, larger, coat.

I keep wondering if their isn't a market for a new snowmobile/ATV coat style with the protector built right in...

I picked up a Tek Vest from Go Big Parts on here for under $150. Very comfortable. I feel like I'm wearing costume muscles but happy with it. Another good thing in additon to the protection is your backpack weight is now spread out over the vest and not just your shoulders. Plus, it provides some warmth to the core which was nice this weekend. Brrrrrrr!

I have a TekVest as well. As stated previously, it's annoying at first, but it is something that you get used to over time. My brother claims that he nows feels naked without his on.

Also, some just protect the back and chest, while others have shoulder pads as well. I prefer the one without thet shoulder pads, as they are too bulky for me.

I have a 661 with elbow, chest, back and shoulder pads. Honestly, I have a hard time wearing it. Seems to really wear me out physically because of the lack of movement. I am pretty sure it would be the same with any brand, but I am not sure. Wearing it makes me feel safer, but I don't enjoy riding as much with it on...if that makes sense.
