I took this from another forum and out of respect for him I do NOT want to post on it. But I want to talk about this subject. It makes me so GAWD dammmmm MAD to see these things. Why must we lose our children like this when its in our control to do something about it. TEXTING while driving, its bad I do it and need to STOP.

I HATE govt control but sometimes they just may need to do something. Heck quit screwing around chasing guns down. Pass a law that car manufactures and cell phone manufactures just cant text when in motion. It would be so EASY.

If you take anything from my rant read this mans comments and take a second thought before looking down at your phone.....I know I will!!!



My name is Larry and i am 44 years old and tomorrow i have to take clothes to the funeral home for my 11 year old baby boy. My heart is broken as i write this. He was with his older brother when an idiot driving an suv way over the speed limit and texting on his phone smashed into them while they were setting still. I would like all you parents to cherish the moments with your kids because they are gods little gifts. Have to go, can't write anymore. Larry

My heart breaks for the guy, or anyone else that has lost a child. Sorry highmark, your remarks almost use the same logic as the anti-gunners. Then passengers could not text on a train, bus or as a passenger in a motor vehicle. It's not the phones or the cars, it's the people who operate them. I don't know what the answer is or how to stop it. JMHO

My heart breaks for this guy and every time I hear of a child dying. I know the pain of having to bury a child and it is the worst sort of pain that I think a person can go through. I agree with XXL that government control and regulation isn't the answer. Maybe harsher punishment is, I don't know. I myself am guilt of texting and driving occasionally although I try not to and know that it's wrong. A little reminder to cherish your children every now and then is a good thing. I know I get wrapped up in life and sometimes forget that the journey is more important than the final destination.

The answer isn't regulation, its a problem involving lack of responsibility. Why would you be speeding a ton AND be texting?? I may text people, but only sitting at a stoplight or on a straight piece of interstate with no one around. At least then I can wander a little into another lane and there is no harm done. Show some respect to your fellow drivers/human beings.

I think as a society we should use the power of shaming people and their families. It works well in Japan for the most part. Then you are forced to be honorable or you get disowned. Not like the crap here where you can go to jail 4 or 5 times and your parents will welcome you home like a saint(not all families like this cuz I know my parents wouldn't put up with it but too many do).

Not to mention its cheaper than trying to throw 'em in jail.

Isn't it like $1000 fine in Washington if your caught Texting and driving? I still see people all the time doing it though. Im younger so im in the generation of people always on their phone but I can't figure out what's so damn important that people have to be talking / Texting constantly. I've never heard of someone getting a ticket for it cause I don't think its enforced enough. Don't know about anyone else but Ide be giving tickets all day for it. Had enough people almost hit me or see others almost get hit because of it.

how do you prove it? Its almost impossible to prove someone is texting. What about if they are on the internet searching something? Or playing a game does that count as texting? Its a stupid rule I wish people would just exercise some common sense. Back in the good ol' days I heard people were able to fend for themselves and didn't need all these stupid laws to protect them.

Almost every accident I respond to anymore at work is due to "distracted drivers" texting, talking, etc...

We had two accidents today, both at fault drivers were texting...

Texting has always been a huge problem, but has dramatically increased now with everyone having smartphones it seems.

Its hard to outlaw/enforce ignorance....

So can you pull everyone over whom you suspect of sending a text, then get a warrant to check their phone records? Anyone with half a brain when they get pulled over if they are actually texting will just delete their texts, it takes like 2 minutes.

And if they do ban it how many more accidents will be caused by people texting and trying to conceal the fact they are texting?
