Just a reminder for everyone to check their avalanche beacons for proper function. My Tracker seemed to be working fine, do your typical buddy check and hear it beep while your standing next to them, back to transmit and switch. All that worked fine but I was going to show someone how my beacon worked and turned it on and I was always .2 away when in Search mode. Not going to find anyone real fast that way. I am now a proud owner of a Tracker 2.
Going to call BCA tomorrow to see if there is anything I can do with this one or if it needs to be destroyed. Anyone know if the UAC would want a beacon that only transmits?
UPDATE:
So while I was messing around with the new tracker I decided to check the batteries even though they were brand new in the original Tracker. There were Duracell Powerpix batteries. I guess they little tiny note on the battery door and in the owners manual that says USE ALKALINE BATTERIES ONLY is right. Put your normal energizer battery in and it worked fine. Who would think that NickelOxy Hydroxide 1.5V battery would make it all screwy.
Bottom line is be familiar with your equipment, make sure it works correctly, make sure you put the RIGHT KIND OF BATTERIES IN.
Anyone want a fully functioning BCA Tracker for cheap?
