Changing skis on a 1996 phazer II

Ok, I am swapping out stock skis on my sons sled. The problem I am having is I can't get the bolt that attaches the ski to the strut to come out of the ski. The nut comes off but the bolt won't pull through the strut so that I can get the ski off. Any suggestions?

There is a steel bushing inside the aluminum, I have had to sawzall the bolt before because it started spinning the bushing, which then hits the side of the ski. I tried heat and pressing it out with a bottle jack and it would just bend the ski rather than release the bolt from the bushing.

@IDspud how did you finally get the bolt out? The bolt just spins when I try and use the socket on it. I assume from your description that the bushing is spinning with the bolt. I don't understand how a sawzall would help this situation.

He cut the bolts off inside the mounts-my guess.

The bolt and bushing basically seized together with corrosion. Maybe try some penetrating oil and let it sit. Hit it with a hammer and hope for the best. Make sure you turn the nut on a little so you don't screw up the threads.

Good luck!!!

On the old Phazers what skis work adn fit well? Have a couple needing cheap upgrades for the kids.

I used a set of skis from a 03 mountain cat. I just added some washers to make it fit. Have had no trouble for 2 yrs now. 100% better than the stock skis and grandaughter can run it easy.

Sorry, missed this, as stated above, sawzalled the bolt between the ski and spindle, dropped the ski off and bolt comes out easy, is trapped by the bushing hitting on the ski.

I have used arctic cat skis with no issues, I drill out the bushings to fit cat bolts in the new skis. I trim 2" x 4" x 1/4" rubber strips from conveyor belting, place them under the spindle, space the skis in with washers and has worked very well. It narrows the front end and makes steering much easier, rear doesn't try to pass the front in low snow conditions. My kids can also roll up on the edge for a sidehill because of the narrow stance.
