Challenger Lite Track Mods?

This thread is worthleass with out some pics here boys. Iwould love to see what guys have done as i have 2 of these tracks and would like to modd one and keep one stock. thanks

Better luck at pulling teeth then triing to get a warranty replacement............all depends on the dealer. I know 99% will say "thats normal wear and tear". Basically will try a few mods and if its still garbage swap it out next year.

This very topic has been weighing on my mind. I drilled 4--5/8 inch holes in one of the 90 paddles on this track today. It's going to take some time to do this, but I was somewhat optomistic, because the paddle arched a little easier when i pressed on it @ the rear wheel, than the others. As I see it, this track is one snow displacing son of a gun, and lacks the floating characteristics of the other tracks, anyway--before I do this to the rest of the track---has anyone done this with any luck??

Modified Challenger track PICTURES

Here are 3 pictures of what I did to the challanger lite to hopefully make it work--and yes--I had to shorten it by 1/4" to make it clear in this applicaton. A hot knife is a wonderful tool--but a good one is expensive!

The ribs on the back of the paddles need to be trimmed to alow the paddle to flex. This is what gets a track on top of the snow, not the grooves. I'd post pics but i have dial-up.

I trimmed some of the ribs on the back of the paddle's--not all. It softened it up quite a bit--I did not want to make it to soft--I just replaced a track that was to soft!!:D

I got stuck with an 08 XP with a powder lite. I tried everything to get the dealer to change it out for a powdermax. I was met with stiff resistance. At any rate his explanation was the powder lite is all new for 08 and now "the track to have". Any truth to that? It sounded like pure BS to me.

Did you notch the support ribs, or shave some material off them evenly?

Performaance review

With today's ride as a test--The mod's done to this track are awesome--It performed better than expected!! But stay back--This track throws snow now.

Side hilled extremely well--climbed in the 2' of snow we have untracked great and did not dig holes!!

How long did it take you to do that. Im gonna try this before i go to revy for christmas and can a guy use a retreading hot knife? I know in calgary they have them for cheaper than one of those. Also u just clipped in between the paddle stiffners. You didnt do anything to them did you?

Well first I had to cut down the track from a 2.3 to a 2" for clearence on this application--so we will minus this out for ya.

With the track off it took about 45 minutes to do all of the paddles--it goes pretty quick with the right tool. We did have to change the bit/cutter 3 times(about 10 minutes) as it burned out--I was experimenting with temps. It actually went quick cutting out the notches. As I went I would cut a small angle on the back supports every once and awhile--I did not wnt to make it to soft.

It did do the job very well after this help--I am very pleased with this track now.

I have not seen a retreaders hot knife--So I do not know how it would work. Do you know aanyone that races dirt cars--they might have a hot knife like the one I used if they cut their own tire's.

Ill look into to your style of knife if it works better. I like the track mod you did but i was thinking about triming every other lug on the backside.Cause like you said you dont want it too soft. Thanks for the help and ill look into it when i get home.
