CFI converted to APT Smart Carb

I know this has been mentioned in the past, but has anyone tried converting the CFI-2 to a carb set up yet? I remember a little while back someone mentioning dropping 16lbs if you remove all the cfi hardware... Also, the APT Smart Carb seems to be making some people on the snowbikes very happy, set up your initial tune then never touch it again for any elevation or temperature change. It even sounds like the smart carb will adapt easily to boost if that is where you get your kicks. A lot of people will think I'm crazy for asking since everyone remembers the old jetting days, but it sounds like there really isn't any jetting with these, and I like the KISS principal. I'm just curious if anyone else has been thinking about this or has tried it yet. Contemplating trying something different, and if this drops the amount of weight that I have heard in the past, (I thought it was about the PAR 1100) it might be something to consider. If not maybe KISS will mean keep the turbo since that has already been done.

In the engines current mounting location/position rack 40's will not fit. I've tried.

Curious where the interference is? Do they hit the tunnel, or is it they do not fit the stock air box, or something else?

I wonder if you got like a silber billet throttle boot adapter that changes the angle up of the carbs if they would fit then...

I have one, the throttle bodies have a larger spigot size. Here are a few photos for comparison.

If they were sized properly would they provide clearance? A smart carbed big bore with the lightweight crank sounds fun... Of course the turbo is probably much easier.

There has to be a way to do this. Par has carb'ed CFI engines in PRO's. But from the mock up I just did with one of my parts chassis and the race LR 600 (which is for the sake of dimensions a CFI case). The race racked 40's with the shorty float bowls. You would need to raise the engine about an inch straight up. Or wedge it so the intake was 1" higher.

You might also be able to raise it some and remount it forward some and run a longer belt, but with the way the recoil and front mag side motor mount is, that would be a trial and error thing. There also is not much extra in front of the PTO side to bulkhead for re-positioning.

Maybe one of the Carb'ed / CFI PAR engine guys will enlighten us with some pics.

Here is a set that I picked up from PAR when I was putting a turbo into an IQR. The carbs sit very close to the tunnel/bulkhead on the IQR also and the stock boots wouldnt allow the turbo airbox to mount in the sled. These adapters were really short which gave me the clearance I needed. They also had removable sleeve type adapters that would allow the use of different size carbs or throttle bodies with them. Maybe these would work?

I tried those already, still too long even with the carb mount inside of the billet adapter. The engine needs to sit 1" higher to clear the bulkhead with the racked 40's. May be able to squueze the smaller bodied 38 or 40 TMX's. I personally have not seen the smart carb ( other than photos) but they looked to be every bit as big or bigger than the racked 40's.

might take a little adapter plate but maybe an xp style intake boot? i dont like them that much, but could create the room needed?

i know WPS carries the SPI branded ones now for like $20 per. not a big investment either way.
