Where is the best place to stay in or near Centennial Wy. I reviewed quite a few but am looking for more input. Also would like to have gas on site or very close.

Thanks any replies.

Been staying at The Old Corral for many years. Never had a bad experience. The Friendly Store has gas (premium), permits and just about anything else you need. The Bear Tree is definitely the watering hole with great food. All in less than a city block.

FYI, If you didn't know. You still have to trailer 5+ miles up the mountain to the parking lot. Just didn't want you think you can ride from where you stay. Also there is only a couple places to eat in that town and they may or may not be open if its mid week or early/late season. Eric

Is there any place close that you can ride from?

If you want to ride from the door there are a couple places on the hill, but you will have to pack everything in with you. Mountain Meadow Cabins is one. http://www.mtnmeadowcabins.com/
Another option is Albanny Lodge. http://www.albanylodge.com/ They have evrything you need/want. The down side is a 20 mile trail ride to the top.
If there is enough snow you can ride out of town. I have been staying in Centennial for years midweek and have never not been able to get fuel, food or cocktails.

You can ride out of Albany. I prefer staying in centennial and driving up to the top.

Where do you stay in town? If you can ride out of town, how far till you hit the trail to decent snow?

Thanks

I have always stayed at The Old Corral. Again there has to be GOOD snow to ride from town. Guys I ride with rode from town in 2011/12. I think its about a 8 mile ride to Green Rock. I think its about a mile or so of ditch riding before you hit an ungroomed trail. There are condo's for rent that are about a mile out of town. http://wintercreekcondos.com/welcome I always see snowmobile tracks heading up the hill from there. The down side is you are not close to fuel and food.

Not much terrain on that 8 mile ride up from Centennial IMO - I would rather trailer up and save the gas in my sled, especially since there is not a spot to buy gas at Greenrock. But I understand the convenience of not loading/unloading sleds on a trailer plays a big factor.

If the snow is deep enough for a ride up from Centennial to Greenrock you may not find as much snow on the west side. These are the upslope storms that usually come a few times each year.

If you want to stay in Centennial just plan on trailering up each day. Even on the rare times that you can ride from town, you might have dirt to ride back on.
The times Ive had no food/gas in that town is early season like thanksgiving weekend and also New Years day.
I would just stay at Albany lodge if you don't want to trailer. They have food, gas, rental sleds, and bar. The trail ride up is not a big deal. After about 5 miles on the trail you can start getting off trail and playing around. there is a lot of good places to ride with out going to 20-25 miles to the backside of the mountain. Eric

Last couple of times we've stayed in Laramie. If someone isn't renting, someone's busting something and getting parts in Laramie. Restaurants are close, hot tub at the typical big chain hotel. I used to drive 45 minutes to work, not a big deal to drive 45 minutes to ride. Then we leave for the trip on a weeks notice and haven't worried about long term reservations.

This is exactly what we do 80-90% of the time. No reservations to worry about, Just going when they get dumped on. Everything you need in town at much better prices. Eric
