CAUTION!!!! Just got this email from HCPH club!

I was able to confirm that this was intentionally done to harm sledders. I was up there the week before and a snow cat had turned around in this same spot, so I wasn't sure if that was being confused for the ditch. However, it looks like some people showed up on snow shoes and skis and did the work. 90 degree angle cuts with shovels and perhaps snow saw/chain saw (hypocrites). Anyway, I'm expecting an article in the Vail Daily this week. I also reported this to the Forest Service (VM) and have not heard back from them.

I really hope you guys keep the pressure on and find out who did this. I ride a lot these days with my wife and daughter, just the thought of one of them getting hurt........

Publish this LOUD AND CLEAR, Bug. Notify the Blue Ribbon Coalition and COVHCO. Let's do everything we can to tell everyone in the Winter Sports World. What was done was wrong and potentially ending up making a wife or child without a parent by the day's end.

I know that as much as we would like to have an a$$ kicking party, that would make us no better than they were/are. Let's be the bigger group here and prove that we aren't a bad group of winter enthusiests.

All, please keep an eye out for weird, out of place stuff. Piano wire (yep, happened on RE 2 years ago.) trail markers in a strange spot. Anything that we can use as proof that somebody is out to maim or kill sledders. We all carry cameras, helmet cams (great for proof of confrontation) so documenting something should be easy.

I cant believe this chit is actually happening. What did we(sledders) ever do to deserve this? What gives those people the right? What do they think they are going to accomplish? Eventually,no one will be allowed in the backcountry without having to pay for a day pass or overnight pass or some other bullchit govt interference fee. These people are ****ed up and god help them when they get caught redhanded.
But,lets be the bigger person and get proof and get them where it hurts. no group wants to be published as manslaughterers or murderers or those that intentionally cause harm. Imagine the damage that would be done to that group with all the negative publicity.

Wow..... this stuff is hitting a all new lows on the local level. Hopefully someone can prove who did it, prove the intentions and then present it to the forest service or law enforcement. Sadly unless something has changed with the Vail Daily I woulldn't hold my breath waiting for them to ever say a bad word about what this group did.

I don't know about that. These groups are getting more violent to push their agenda. Remember this guy? He burned down the sheepskin factory all for a "Cause".

And in his own words:
"The arson at the Sheepskin Factory in Denver was done in defense and retaliation for all the innocent animals that have died cruelly at the hands of human oppressors," the post stated. "Be warned that making a living from the use and abuse of animals will not be tolerated. Also be warned that leather is every bit as evil as fur. As demonstrated in my recent arson against the Leather Factory in Salt Lake City. Go vegan!"

The people that dug the trench are out to make a huge statement. Thankfully a snowmobiler wasn't injured this time.

Ok, I was starting to believe just what Farmer said about the Vail Daily not posting this article because it is a very liberal based paper (the chief editor). I have a call into the FS and still have not heard back. I'll call again today.

PJ I agree with you. My first reaction is to round up the posse. But it is better exposure to let the environmental groups come out of this looking bad. It does on it's own, we just need to keep pushing it along.

HERE is the article.

Earth First! has been in Vail the last couple of weeks handing out flyers at the Covered Bridge. Is it a coincidence that this happened when they were in town? They are known for their extreme environmental activism. Only by luck, did anyone not get hurt.

So the next time you go to a meeting where a group wants to propose more wilderness, please mention this incident.

Holy Cow! I cannot believe it actaully made it into not only one paper but two!!!! I guess a little more faith would be in order on my part. lol.

Farmer did you read the comments though? One person was sad that no snowmobilers died. I can't believe how ignorant some people can be!

I wish I could punch people in the face through my computer :face-icon-small-fro

Wow. Print the comments out, screen shot that one in particular so as to use it for proof in further battles.

Hypocrits is all they are. To wish death upon an individual just because what they enjoy to do is WRONG.

Printout or screen shot won't do anything. There is no way to know who wrote that. For all "they" know one of us could have typed that comment to make things look bad.

I really doubt that, but there is no way for us to know. The daily can check the ip address.

Press release from eagle county sheriff today:

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Forest Service have determined that the large section of dug out trail on Homestake Road near Camp Hale was not a booby-trap for snowmobiles.

The hole was dug with the intention of removing a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) that was stuck and was not meant to hurt snowmobilers. The person that dug the hole did not notify anyone because they didn’t believe that the hole was a potential hazard.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind snowmobilers to keep an eye on the trail for hidden dangers. Depressions in the snow, fallen trees and snow covered stumps can have fatal results for those who are not prepared to stop.

Thanks to all you guys for getting the word out and contacting the authorities regarding this. At best it's a completely irresponsible action by someone digging out a utv. The comments made by a few below the published articles makes it clear that it could easily be what many suspected. Environmental terrorism is real and is in fact domestic terrorism. There are a number of three letter agencies that should be put on notice once again in Colorado by the local law enforcement agencies... Should be... But historically that's the sort of attention that local agencies resist as it identifies a problem they have possibly been unsuccessful dealing with... Pointing out a possible internal deficiency, and therein lies the problem. Along with local politics of course.

You guys contacting the authorities, local groups, and the press force the issue!
THANK YOU!

PS: In general I think cops kick arse so no personal agenda anywhere here except keeping us all safe in the dwindling areas we have left to ride!
