Cat, Pro or Do best in 2014 ???

Hay Guys,

I currently have the a Polaris Dragon 2008 163" (with SLP 3 kit). I am looking to upgrade to either a 2014 Arctic Cat or a 2014 Polaris RMK PRO 163" (Ski-Do is the back runner).

I live in Japan and we experience amazing deep powder conditions for 3 months of the year. I am hoping to make the most of this season is the best possible machine - any thoughts, articles, guidance on the best machine.

Thanks

Well the Suzuki motor in the Cat is the best on the snow still IMO. Very reliable. It's also the cheapest motor to replace out of warranty. Below $2000 for a full motor from people like Michelle at Oregon Trail Sports (engine, oil pump, stator, reeds, etc). You should be able to get it out in Japan for less I would think. The Polaris motor is $4300 and it's literally just the case, crank, cylinders, pistons, and head. You have to bolt all your old parts like the stator, oil pump, etc back onto the Poo motor.

As far as a backcountry sled standpoint... Both will be a huge jump over your Dragon (I had one too). The Pro RMK will edge the Cat proclimb in the most extreme sidehill, downhill turn, and tight tree scenarios because the Cat is a few inches wider in the body and a bit more nose heavy compared to the Pro RMK. This was the main reason I sold my '12 Proclimb and bought a '12 Pro RMK. I love the way my Pro RMK handles, but I needed to put better shocks on it (another $2K). The Proclimb is pretty smooth riding right out of the box. I would venture to guess the 14 Proclimb being able to get higher on the hill too. All the Cat Suzuki motors I've owned have lasted twice as long as any Polaris Dragon or Pro RMK motor I've ever owned. It would be a toss up for me at this point. I'd probably still buy a 14 Pro RMK for the fun factor, but the 14 Proclimb looks much improved this year. The Cat's warranty, power, and reliability are hard to beat (minus the primary clutches of course)

If at all possible, ride all 3 of them and pick the one that you feel "fits" your style of riding best. Then another HUGE factor to consider is having a GOOD dealer close by.

Going from a Dragon to a Pro - as i did - you will notice a major difference in maneuverability, sidehilling ability, weight, balance, and a few other things that will make you smile :) Its kind of like the difference in "feel" between a dirt bike and a dual sport bike.

No matter what one you choose . .. be sure have FUN in that awesome powder!!!

Cheers!

Been there, done that, agree completely

They're all good, do some research and ride each one if you can. It's like asking what's your favorite color.
