cat or skidoo

No dragon in the mix?? The choice would be XP or Dragon to me. I really like my XP for what it's worth. Good luck with your purchase.

Do you want to wrench and wrench all winter? Buy a Doo then,

Or do you want to ride consistantly? Buy a Cat.

my turn to stir. IMO, power is my game and i love the low end on the doo, now with that said if i had money to mod. things would probably diffrent. cats are going to be more reliable and better to mod. now if your completly closed minded try a polaris, not knocking the sled, i'm sure they are excellent, it's usually the one track mind behind the flipper i don't like. They are kind of like vegitarians, thier always right your always wrong, unless you see it the same way as them.:beer;
summary:
stock:ski-doo
mod:cat

I'm having the same delema.

Ergos are a big deal to me and coming off a REV I don't like the low cat seat or how far back the bars are. The Doo and Poo have more forward bars and a higher seat. But every other aspect of the sleds lead me twards the reliability and agility of the cat.

So, i'm still stumped... The boss seat would fix one issue but if you look at the steering post location on cats they are much farther back than the doos and poos. I, like you wish I could ride all three back to back but I just don't have that oppertunity. I've just got to go from what I like about the rev and go from there.

I have rode all of them. Personally I don't like the doo's only cause I feel to far foward. The poo's not as bad I like the way they feel. The Cat I love the ride. They are so easy to throw around and boondock. They feel great not to far forward and not to much back. Thats my two sense. Ow the cats are easy to mod and very reliable

OMG!! here we go! Just buy a yamaha lol! jk.

Well like the other's said test the sled's and go to a dealer ship! and price them out. Xp is what i would go for great motor, they feel more stiff then the Rev's though i don't like that so i'm sticking with my rev...

Cat's are way more moddable if you have the cash!
Xp's are very great stock sled's
if you like lighter sled's then go for the XP
and yes Skidoo's are all over the place, that explain's Somthing? no need to say more.

ether way your picking a great sled!:face-icon-small-win

Why do you guys think cats are more moddable because of turbos? Cats are efi and to mod you need a pain in the a$$ fuel controller. Why not get a skidoo put a head and pipe can intake and some clutch work and jet the thing and go. Have yet to be impressed with the arctic cat motor compared to skidoo. Skidoo stomps arctic cat every time that i have seen.

Everyone has .02. So here's my dollar: you're going to spend alot of money on a machine that you can ride 4-6 months a year. Dealer support is a big thing, but what if the dealer sells both and is cruddy? My advice is go and rent a XP for a day and ride it, then if you can find someone who rents CAT, go try that. You might spend $500 renting sleds but you'll get a full day out of it and you won't second guess yourself after your purchase. I do think when it boils down to dropping that kind of money it all comes down to your experience with you dealer though.

personally i like them both but this was what i witnessed last weekend.in our group there was 1 stock 09 m8,no xp's but could always find a couple on the hills.whatever the xp would climb the m8 would climb just as high.actually, most times a little higher but very close.the reason i say this is because it was my buddies first ride on his 09 m8 and he wanted to see how it would compare to the xp.he would watch one highmark and then pull a line right beside it.:beer;:beer;

If you look at my name it says summitrmk been a ski-doo rider for 15 plus years. I have also owned a few polaris'. I now have an 09 M8 LE. I had a REV 06 800, climbed like a goat (straight up the hill )awesome on the trail also great for doing wheelies but when it came to sidehilling it was scary unless you had 1 1/2+ feet of powder, and coming down hill it liked to find the shortest way down even if it wasn't the way you wanted to go, It controls you, Plus if you hit anything with the skis your out $10,000 I know from experience. I have NOT ridden an XP but I have rode with them from what I've seen they seem the same as the REV but climb higher and faster. Now for CAT I have NOT ridden my 09 yet(besides back and forth in the trailer) but the 08 It did NOT climb as high or as fast as the XP nor did it do wheelies but it rode nice on the trail, over mogouls, and you could sidehill as slow or as fast as you want to go, boondock through the trees, go down hill in any direction you want with such ease, it feels like you and the machine are one, you control it.

This is just my opinion!:)

Ski-doo belts I got between 100-500 mi. $100+:eek:
Cat belts I have been told between 1000-1500mi. $80:cool:

looks like the heaver sled can ride longer (more gas and oil):eek:

11.4 gallons vs 10.6 and I doubt cat has a bigger oil tank.......

I don't care much about economy in my sled, but one thing for sure, If the cats in the group are getting low on fuel, I've got a couple gallons left in the tank.......I've never seen it the other way around.....

my 2 cents

rode my new 09 M8 162 this weekend, completely stock with a SLP can, rode with 3 XPs and 2 were running badly...DPM issues i guess. the M8 was always about 2-3 dollars less in fuel everyday, M8 always ran spot on
and after riding it with a good running XP all weekend i would say there was no winner, they both ROCKED, however IMO the M8 felt stronger!

M8 advantages;
Reliabilty
float skid
better fuel mileage
Adjustable height handle bars (best invention since the wheel)
EFI
2 gallon bigger fuel tank
Powder claw track (loved it)

IMO

now fill em and weigh them........ 30# difference between the two like it or not!

the weights you posted are worthless
...you're talking last years weight...the 09 m-8 sno-pro and the 09 xp, both long tracks were weighed with all fluids.....12 lbs difference, the xp being the lighter....but the new cat track is much better in the deep than the xps'....the m-8 handles better, and has a much better reliability record....as has been mentioned, the m-8 accepts performance upgrades much better.....the m-8 i'm working with, would lose to the xp in a drag race...until the clutching was dialed in, then the m-8 was taking the xp...back to the question, dealer proximaty and desirability should play a big role in your decision.....and i think the reliability aspect is pretty important

I have 45 miles on my 2009 M8 162 sno pro...
and I LOVE IT.
I rode my 2006 800 SummitX REV 151 for the first couple of rides this year, so I had some old habits to break.

There is nothing wrong with the XP's, but I just hated the way the chassis felt to me. I rode one for a day last year, then rode an 08 M8 the next weekend, and that made up my mind. The Cat will carve effortlessly, whereas the XP will fight you to get both skis back on the snow except in the deep, virgin snow.

The Cat's motor is strong and the handling is great. I love the sno-pro's adjustable handle bars. I thought they were gimmicky until I dropped them down for the trail ride to the truck after a day of climbing. Great concept.

I do know for a fact that the 2009 XP's are still fighting their clutching demons. If they would ever get that figured out, they would be dominant in the hills.

My turn.... you have to ride them. I know the XP rips but rode buds in our group lots and just couldn't get used to/like the handling/riding position. I ruled XP out for this reason when I pulled the trigger last year, ended up with Dragon. All good sleds with pros & cons.

nice negative rep there Acmtcat........LMAO!

(The '08s were 30# lighter, not the '09s! 15#s this year BUD! ACMtnCat)

What ever happened to ACMtnCatIsABootLicker?????? Doh!

Just tellin it how it is!:beer; You had too much good rep for being sooo wrong!:D

left or right

General consenus seems to be your dealer. I agree, dealer-service should play a major role if your not tied to one brand or the other. That being said, I ride a cat. A little heavier, not as much power but very reliable. But when the doo dosen't blow a belt it does climb. My .02:D
