Cariboo Conditions and riding areas

We were up at Big Tim yesterday. It was trying to snow all day and it needs it. We didn't bother going to the mine side as it was quite foggy. We mainly played on the left side of the mountain(when coming up from the W.L. side) down in the trees and found lots of good snow that hadn't been touched. Still lots of nuggets showing and have to ride slowly while up on top. I've never been up there this early in the season, but it was pretty good in my books. The trail.... I've seen it worse, but not by much. Another 2' and it'll be golden up there.

Rode Yanks yesterday (Jan 1st) - the trail in was really good on the bottom, but has started getting beat up the higher you go - still appreciate the grooming. found lots of powder, you just have to go look for it. It snowed off and on most of the day (mostly on)

big timothy

rode big t on the 31st,had about6-8" of fresh but was foggy up top, went again on the 3rd and all of our tracks were gone, with about a foot of fresh, blue sky and -5,awsome day,top is still a little low on snow but in any of the meadows or valleys there is tons of soft powder

I was out near Likely today and it was getting up to atleast +8C as around 3600'. I can't imagine it being very good unless you're looking for hero snow. It's expected to be warm and rainy for the next few days atleast in this area. Hopefully it's not as warm as I think up top and actually snowing?

Was at Yanks Dec 31, and was pretty rough. All beaton down and trenched areas from stuck (must be Polaris and Cats? hahahaah) There was about 4" on top of the old, but really needs snow, at least then.
Had to be careful of the little spring water ditches in the meadows(covered in but 12" dips), as many still caught you off guard.I wouldn't go all hell bent anywhere as you never knew what was in front until too late almost. Was bad light that day though.Figured around maybe 4 feet max of settled snow on the less exposed areas.Guys were talking 7 feet, but you know fish stories.
I don't think they have had much new snow since, nothing really major I know of.
Groundhog was the s...s the week before, even less snow and more rocks.
The backside area behind the cabin hillclimb hill has a large boulder near the bottom, size of a big garden shed, and was standing there like a house, usually is covered by now.Again, wouldn't climb around too much as you could see the outline of the bigger rocks still present.
As mentioned, was like 8C this way, and freezing level was about 5000ft last couple, so it must REALLY have settled now.

Yanks was groomed yesterday and unfortunately the report is not good. snow is really settling and melting due to the heat wave we are having around here. I'm not saying "don't go", just realize it won't be optimal conditions.

Thanks

Thanks guys, I will postpone my annual homage to Likely until later in hopes of better conditions.

I'm sure the trail is ok, groomer does a nice job, but is not good, nor safe for blasting around like normal. It rained all morning in Quesnel today, untill noon, and now freezing. Not sure if they got snow up there, maybe some.Talked to a freind from Wells yesterday and they basically have had no snow since I was there Dec.31,maybe a couple cm over a few days, but nothing really.
Supposed to be warm all next week out there, above freezing, until next Friday, then maybe a chance of rain or snow.

wells

went up to prosers on saturday, the 16th only about 3" in town but there was no tracks and about 8" of fresh up top, tree riding was excellent and there was nice blue sky all day,yeh baby

Rode yanks yesterday (Jan 24th) and while the main parts are pretty hard and packed, there is still lots of great riding in between the trees - just don't get too close to them like I did. It was an expensive outing :(. The forecast is for snow this coming weekend so looks like winter might not be over just yet.

Yanks is groomed all the way to the cabin as of yesterday - that will make for a nice smooth ride in this weekend, for sure.
not a lot of new snow but the forecast is calling for some over this weekend.

You can drive up the road from the parking lot a few kms to avoid riding on the lower part of the trail (that part is really hard and icy). The Powder Kings widened a part of the road for parking, and it will accommodate about 5 trucks.

Happy riding!

A friend and I headed out towards Crooked/Pegasus area for the weekend on Friday. On the ride out to where we camp, there was about 6-8" of fresh. When we wole up Saturday morning it was +4c and raining at 3900'. We rode for the day anyway in the slush and at close to 5000' and above it was snowing but all of the fresh snow was still very wet and the temp was close to 0c. I hope the other areas around here were getting pounded with snow. It was a disappointment to see it was snowing so much in town and not in the mountains. We spoke to a friend in Likely who lives beyond the Cariboo River bridge and he said it started snowing yesterday morning and hadn't stopped as of 6pm.

Crazy weather! Got a good dump of snow in Williams Lake yesterday, and hardly anything at the Yanks parking lot this morning?!?!?

Still had a wicked day of riding today and found lots of fresh up top. Temp was right around freezing all day.

well chrispy you sure missed out on a fantastic day, hope the chair got all you kids up the hill today. we were stuck riding the BIG TIM all day. the parking lot looked like heavy weekend traffic but we had a hard time seeing any tracks. felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. had a lot of new snow on top, sank up to the knees every time i stepped off the sled. good vis all day. you may of seen the blue off in the distance, we were just below it!!::face-icon-small-coo

cariboo riding

heard from a guy today, feb 10th, that the ministry is going to be out patroling in helicopters this weekend if you are going to be close to any closed areas,be careful,

Thanks for the heads up - but with the lack of snow around here lately....is anyone still going out? :face-icon-small-sho I'm almost ready to put the sled away and get the boat ready for action. I know, I know, its a bad attitude...:face-icon-small-hap

There were a few of us that went to Big Tim today and it was surprisingly good! Infact, I'd be so bold as to say it was my best day of the season. There wasn't much for new snow, but we found areas that haven't been touched all season and it was amazing. It also helped that the sun came out and my sled was bang on today. All in all a great day in the mountains!

We were up at Big Ti, again yesterday and we were the only 2 people on the mountain. The sun was out in full force and it was very warm up there. There definetly was an inversion going on and all the snow was melting off of the trees. There was about 15cm of new snow, but it was blown all over the mountain into pockets. Right away, we had triggered many small slides on low slopes so I would urge people to use extreme caution. We found an icy layer under the new snow about 30-45 cm down with a hoar frost layer just under the new 15cm that had fallen this week. Avoid the danger and play where you know for sure it is safe. There is no need for any more tragedy this year. Play safe and have fun those who are still riding!
