That's why I ride a Zx. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Sure glad he didn't get hurt.
Seen a lot of these threads lately...
Just because you have a left hand throttle, it doesn't mean that your sled is gonna go into cruise control mode the first time you use it! They are a good tool to have (along with a tether).

The key is to seal the ends. If water can enter and freeze you are doomed. I've been there and seen it in person (sled in a tree). I won't ride without one, but you need to install it properly.

something similar happened to my dad, but with normal throttle, deep snow, went into a carve, snow jammed behind flipper, throttle sticks open, his sled doesnt have a teather, so he fell off and it went about 3/4 throttle into a tree, luckily it was uphil about 20 feet, so it didnt hit very hard, just broke the bumper.
