Carbide Choices With New Timbersled Ski

I see the new Timbersled 10" wide ski shown on their website has a "tunnel" type skag running down the center of the ski with standard round style skags with carbide inserts on the outer edges of the ski.

Have any of you found that using the "tunnel" type skag (there probably is a better name) on the outer edges AS WELL AS in the center position may have helped your front end front washing out or allowed you to hold a tighter line in some snow conditions?

They call it the dual track skag.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that you can take the one from the center and bolt it onto the outsides of the ski.

However, for 2015, there will be dual track skags in the center and on the outsides of the ski.
 
The skags makes trail rideing more manageable and yet it tends to find lurking objects under the snow easier ,the perk is I get more flight time over the handle bars
 
So, for 2015 they will be using that setup?

Interesting, I guess it must be better?

Are the center and the outer skags interchangeable?

New outside ski runners

I have been running them all season and have found that they are a substantial improvement on the trail. I haven't had them let go in a corner yet. Granted I haven't pushed them on the ice and probably won't. Haven't really noticed much difference on side hilling but the that will probably change with spring conditions.
 
Dual keel carbide

Ive been riding the new ski all year. I can ride faster on the trail than my buddies can. Only downfall is it finds every damn thing under the snow you cant see. I have face planted a few times getting used to it. I would not try putting the center keel on the outside, i dont think you would like it.
 
I think running all three will give you much better handling. Usually as soon as you lean the bike over enough to have the center carbide lift you start to swamp out. having that double keel carbide on the edges will help you hold a line better that's for sure.

I have been riding a dual Carbide on the center made up by nine miler on here. Last year I ran the tunnel center now installed by timbersled, and found myself on my side a lot on iced trails. For the speed or control gained in the powder I will sacrifice that for control on the ice. Now with the carbide dual in the center, with the tunnel on the sides....that may work great.
 
My buddies and I have been running a 6" triple point carbide skeg down the center and the stockers on the outside. They work great. They are available in my store for $99 shipped. HERE

I was also wondering about the difference in the triplepoint skegs. I started running Bergstrom triples on our sleds...you cant find anything else out there that has the grip of the triple!
 
dual carbide

Here is my dual runner carbide, This thing works ask the GMan its 135.00 Ill pay the frt been testing it all season close to 1000 miles on it through dirt rocks creeks still looks like new. I cant tell the difference handling between the pipe skag and this one out side carbide holds on ice the other doesent.

Both skags look good.

For the super deep baseless mountain powder. Based on looks, I would think by the size and design, that the Ninemiler skag should provide more bite in deep powder but, I really have no idea.

I love the novel ideas!
 
That's gonna be a tough one for you guys , the more traction you add the more resistance your creating scrubbing horse power . That's where the suspensions being behind you instead of under you will be a challenge and will have to be accepted as the nature of the beast .

The only way around it would be to go to bigger machines that puts the weight on the new ski , it than will and does turn on a dime .
