ok ski-doo guys heres one for ya, i sold my 00 700 summit to a kid! sled had 4500 miles on it with new top end(bottom end was stock) 2 days later he broke the crank and tried to get money out of me! im telling him to get lost sorry sold as is!!!! And to boot he was riding the sled down the trail when it happend!

used sleds from a private party don't have warranty. unless you had some sort of agreement, plain and simple it's his baby. sucks cause i've been on the recieving end of these deal before but that's a chance you take.

I assuming he knew the bottom end was never rebuilt and you did not know the crank was going to go out. I say its just bad luck on his end. It sucks for him but if it happened to you you would call the seller and ask for your money back and most likely no get it back.

Tell him to go pound salt.

Tell him you offer an extended warranty for $2000, good for one year on the motor.....

Sounds like a personal problem......that happened to me a couple years ago......bought the sled and rode it for about 2 hours and the top end went to sh!t.......i know what its like and it sucks but sh!t happens

go with what your gut says;you have no legal obligation to return the cash,
but if it helps you sleep, make a compermise.offer to help hime fix.if you sleep good at night .tell him sorry.
this is not a commit on you , just some input

i don't think it's your responsibility at all, but i think i might offer to help pay for part of the parts. not much but a little just to try and help. cuz i know i would hope somebody would help me if it happened. But that's only if you can afford to. if not, like i said your not responsible. That's a chance you take buying used.

Myself i would help the kid pay for parts,You said, "he only had it for two days" "it blew up on the trail"? It doesn't even sound like he really used it or had any fun. If it was a week or so later and he put some miles on it, well then tough luck, but one ride. If you let a buddy ride it would you make him pay? The sled would have failed the next time you rode it as well and you would be fixing it or selling for not near the price you got. Its your call friend ,"buyer be ware" but myself i would help out no question.

tough call man, it is an 8 yr old sled. I like the old "sold as is, where is, no warranty expressed or implied..." goes on all my bills of sale. if I knew the kid well, I might help out a bit. other than that, sorry 'bout your luck fella.....

As is means just that. If he wanted something with a warranty he should've bought new.

if this was his first or second ride on it, I would have personally helped out, just because you have no legal obligation, dosnt make it the right thing to do in my opinion, if more people would do the right thing by their gut rather than what they were obligated to, might be a nicer place to live.

I bought a used sled from a dealer with 800 miles on it and put about 150 miles on it in three weeks. Then the piston melted down and took out the crank. When I called the dealer all they said was "can we transfer you to parts." No warranty, no break on parts, nothing at all.... and they are a reputable dealer in CO. Help him if you're generous otherwise it sucks to be him, he's on his own.

they should have warranty...nothing personal, but everything should have an implied warranty that it will work as advertised...anyone could have thought the bottom end was too expensive and did a quicky job and etc... leaving some unsuspecting guy holding the bag...

How old was the kid?
I went to buy a really nice car one time when I "WAS A KID",even gave the guy a deposit.A week later he sent me my money back with a note saying you might have better luck with a different car-sorry to disappoint you.
My thanks to him!!!!
If you were realllly glad to be rid of the sled, you might feel better to help "the kid "out a little - (I,m sure he will apreciate it :) ,) other wise tell him it's not you're problem-he'll grow up faster that way.

legally you owe nothing, unless the builder of the top end might have advised you that there was excessive play in the rods or bearings.....i would think that there was some play in the bottom end....also the possibility that some foreign object could have been introduced to the bottom end while the top was off....lots of maybes....with the damage to the engine coming so soon after the top end rebuild, and with the apparent low use after the purchase, i would think that helping out on the rebuild of the bottom end would be a gallant thing to do
