can a rod be straightened?

So I bought a supposed to be, Trygstad built and balanced crank for a 800ho rev motor, from a fellow snowester on here. Started final assy of topend and have some strange binding while turning motor over by hand. After closer exam and checking clearances of piston to cyl wall, ring end gap, and cylinder final plate dimension, we have reached the conclusion that pto side rod is very very slightly bent. It is causing the piston to bind in the bore. Top edge of piston is tight and opposing bottom portion of skirt is tight. My question is have any of you ever straightened a rod like this with any success? It sounds scary to me but I have never encounterd a bent rod before. Obviously we would brace the rod and secure it so as to not put any side load on lower rod bearing. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You're in need of a new crank boss...hopefully that crank you've got isn't welded, otherwise it's not even good as a core. Actually, I might have a rod kit available for it and and could probably just replace the rod so you maintain the lightweight crank...

Cmon someone has tried this ???? I am talkin about movin the rod 0.001 +/-.
If the clearance in the cyl. wall to piston is 0.005 and the piston is 4 times wider than the rod end, it is a f'in tiny amount it needs to move!

Apparently others aren't thinking to highly of the modification. Maybe you should doo it since its only .001.

Tell us how it worked out for ya. Thanks for the R&D.
