Fresh from the Ohio State web site:

Buckeyes
A small, shiny, dark brown nut with a light tan patch that comes from the official state tree of Ohio, the buckeye tree.

According to folklore, the Buckeye resembles the eye of a deer and carrying one brings good luck. “Buckeyes” has been the official Ohio State nickname since 1950, but it had been in common use for many years before.
The first recorded use of the term Buckeye to refer to a resident of the area was in 1788, some 15 years before Ohio became a state. Col. Ebenezer Sproat, a 6’4" man of large girth and swashbuckling mannerisms, led the legal delegation at the first court session of the Northwest Territory in Marietta. The Indians in attendance greeted him with shouts of "Hetuck, Hetuck" (the Indian word for buckeye), it is said because they were impressed by his stature and manner. He proudly carried the Buckeye nickname for the rest of his life and it gradually spread to his companions and to other local settlers. By the 1830s, writers were commonly referring to locals as “Buckeyes.”

Phatty, your a Buckeye fan? I have a new friend lol!

Im a huge buckeye fan! Second only to my Utes! We've taken our lumps the last few years...

Im on a roll for bowl games this year, wish this game had been played Saturday night, i probably would have gone to it, but im feeling really good about this game. Seniors have something to prove, healthy beenie and pryor has some expierence now... I have no doubt OSU will score points, its just how will the defense stop colt and the offense????

Kim calling you after work for directions to your place! After my buckeyes win im putting my buckeye flower garden sign in your yard for the rest of the summer!!!

Lets just hope with the exception of iowa that ohio state fairs better than the rest of the big 10 teams.

Have you guys forgotten how ticked off Texas is with the whole national championship ousting? I think this game will be a blowout, it would definently help Utah's final ranking if OSU can pull it off but, as we saw with the Utah Bama game the major factor in college football is heart not so much talent.:o:face-icon-small-win

Party at my place, if anyone wants to brave it??
