Businesses that are open on Xmas

I finally turned into my dad...griping about govt and this and that. BUT if I were Mayor of my small town I absolutely would push for a town law for Sunday business to be stopped. I really despise seeing these businesses advertising......"OPEN ALL DAY ON XMAS". I miss the old days of if you needed something on Sunday you bought it Saturday or before.

I know this does not work for gas stations but a guy could work out a alternation schedule so these people can be with there families!

I know we have become a "throw away get it as u need it society" but some things need to be sacred and xmas with family is one of those things.

Was that way years ago where I grew up. The essential places i.e. gas stations rotated Sundays. I think North Dakota had a state law that kept businesses from opening on Sunday until the big box stores started moving in i.e. WalMart I think everything should be closed by 2 p.m on Christmas Eve and not be able to reopen no earlier than 6 a.m. the day after Christmas

I as well hate the 24/7 world we live in Himark, although sometimes it is handy. But more times than not the world could shut down about 6 in the evening during the week, and only essentials open on Sunday's and holidays and we would be just fine.

I would just get something out of the freezer and we would have a grill session then~ and don't try shooting yourself a second time~ ya proved it works!!LOL

Interesting that most folks on this forum advocate for less government involvement in their lives yet we want a law making business close at certain times to perpetuate a "sacred" belief.

Nope but the pharmacist had his home number listed in his yellow page ad and on the door of the store. He would come in for an emergency. Try to get the Walgreen pharmacist to care enough to do that. Yeah right!

stores should close for a week that way the population would be used to keeping extra on hand and get off the tit of the 24/7 world . spend more time at home with their families and maybe become a better society ...

Great...all we need is more laws. Government CANNOT fix the decaying norms and values. I am so damn tired of people relying on the government to fix these issues.

Why don't we just legislate everything!? I don't like people writing "Xmas." Should we make a law that states you can only write it "Christmas"...because I don't like you referring to Christ with an X?

See my point. We have legislated the hell out of things that inconvenience us or that we don't like. It has to stop. It is not a truly free America.

I get pissed when I see commercials for stores that are open on Christmas. Does it make me want to create a new law? FAWK NO! If people had values the store wouldn't be open. YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE VALUES INTO PEOPLE.

I don't like it, you don't like it...but deal with the inconveniences as Jefferson stated. More laws ARE NOT the answer to our problems in this country! In fact, it is quite the opposite. Too many laws and regulations are choking this country out.

Laws should be designed to protect people. There should be a victim when someone has broken a law. Not because a person inconvenienced another. If a store is open on Christmas how does that make you a victim? Does that store take your property or commit physical harm on your person because they are open on Christmas?

If ya don't like the advertisements from the store...turn off your TV or radio. The problem of being inconvenienced is solved right? Turn off the TV and spend more quality time with your family. TV is chit.

Laws legislate common sense and morality all the time. Murder is immoral so we make it against the law to murder. Robbing a bank is immoral. So we make a law making it illegal. Are you saying we should have no laws? When there are no laws there is no legal or illegal and people will do want ever they want. I don't think I want to live in a country without laws.

You missed what I was saying completely. Yes we should have laws. The laws you speak of have victims. The ONLY job of the government is to protect the rights of its people. Laws should only be made to protect people from physical harm or the protection of their property. If we made a store close on Sunday or Christmas that is infringing on their rights to freely be engaged in commerce. This is supposed to be a free America...one with liberty...not petty communist type laws.
